JOB TITLE: Research Scientist

JOB LOCATION: Coralville, IA (Onsite Position)

Contract Duration: 12 months

Shift - M-F, 9-6 (1 hr lunch break)

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Research Scientist II conducts bench-level scientific research focused on nucleic acids and nucleic acid biochemistry, supporting the development and characterization of genomics products in NGS, qPCR, and functional genomics. The role involves planning and executing experiments, analyzing and reporting data, maintaining laboratory operations, and collaborating with internal teams and customers.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and execute molecular biology, biochemical, and cell biology experiments with minimal supervision
  • Analyze experimental data, document results, and determine next steps
  • Operate, maintain, and support laboratory equipment and workflows
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and contribute to technical reports
  • Collaborate with R&D teams, internal departments, and customers on research and technical support
  • Present findings in group meetings and introduce new laboratory techniques as needed

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences with 3+ years of relevant lab experience (Master’s with 1+ year preferred)
  • Experience with standard lab software and Microsoft Office
  • Preferred experience with primer/probe design, DOE tools, molecular cloning, protein expression/purification, and assay design

 

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organization, multitasking, and attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Ability to train others and work collaboratively in a fast-paced lab environment

 

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and perform repetitive lab tasks
  • Frequent sitting, hand use, and fine motor skills; occasional standing, walking, lifting, and equipment handling
  • Requires good vision, color differentiation, and ability to read measurements and documentation
