JOB SUMMARY
The Research Scientist II, under minimal supervision, conducts bench scientific experimentation that advances the basic science of nucleic acids and nucleic acid biochemistry and assists with development and characterization of new genomics products in NGS, qPCR and functional genomics. This position is responsible for planning and executing experiments, analyzing data and reporting/presenting findings as well as supporting customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of basic science and employ solid laboratory skills to execute bench experiments using molecular biology, cell biology, biochemical and general laboratory techniques.
- Plan experimental details required for execution of assigned work under minimal to moderate oversight.
- Analyze raw data, report results, and plan next steps.
- Utilize mathematical, graphical, imaging, nucleic acid analysis, and other software aids as needed.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental work.
- Assist in preparation of technical reports for internal use.
- Interact with and assist other members of the R&D team to meet research objectives.
- Collaborate with internal departments and customers to support technical service and research projects.
- Present information at group meetings as directed.
- Lead or participate in laboratory and equipment maintenance.
- Introduce new techniques into the research group.
- Demonstrate behavior consistent with Core Values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Genetics, Chemistry, or related life sciences field with three or more years relevant lab experience.
- Master’s degree in Biology, Genetics, Chemistry, or related life sciences field with one or more years relevant lab experience preferred.
- Proficiency in PC software programs with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to train others in basic laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and manage several projects simultaneously.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with peers and all levels of management.
- Adaptability to changing tasks and priorities.
- Ability to maintain courtesy and cooperation in team settings.
- Ability to accept responsibility for direction, control, or planning of activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with primer/probe design and statistical tools for DOE.
- Previous experience with molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, and assay design.
- Knowledge in structural biology and microbiology.
- Ability to introduce new laboratory techniques not previously used in the group.
Certifications
Relevant certifications in molecular biology, biochemistry, or genomics techniques are preferred (e.g., specialized laboratory safety certifications, advanced molecular biology training).
