20Position Summary
We are looking for someone that is interested in NIH-funded research on understanding how the immune system interacts with gut bacteria and parasites, a process important for a heathy gut. A strong interest in biomedical research is important, but prior experience is not. This position will be 95% devoted to an independent research project with the goal of generating data for publication in peer-reviewed journals. This is an opportunity to acquire skills for those interested in advancing a career in academic research or medicine. Experiments will include animal studies, sterile cell culture techniques, PCR, restriction digest, plasmid purification, gel electrophoresis, and maintaining a detailed lab notebook containing research data.Assists with laboratory duties in a research setting; performs routine tests with direction from the supervisor, manager or higher-level technician.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintains files on research and assists with data entry.
- Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
- Working knowledge of computer software.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

$16.21 - $21.69 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
