Position Summary

We are looking for someone that is interested in NIH-funded research on understanding how the immune system interacts with gut bacteria and parasites, a process important for a heathy gut. A strong interest in biomedical research is important, but prior experience is not. This position will be 95% devoted to an independent research project with the goal of generating data for publication in peer-reviewed journals. This is an opportunity to acquire skills for those interested in advancing a career in academic research or medicine. Experiments will include animal studies, sterile cell culture techniques, PCR, restriction digest, plasmid purification, gel electrophoresis, and maintaining a detailed lab notebook containing research data.

Assists with laboratory duties in a research setting; performs routine tests with direction from the supervisor, manager or higher-level technician.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintains files on research and assists with data entry.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

R04-H

Salary Range

$16.21 - $21.69 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
