Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary A Research Technician II position is available in Dr. Doug Chalker's group to carry out key activities of the Tetrahymena Stock Center. The Stock Center maintains laboratory strains long-term and sends cell lines or DNA samples to researchers upon request. The individual filling this position will carry out this role as well as receive new samples for cryopreservation, reconstitution of frozen samples, and cataloging. When not performing these key functions, this individual will be involved in developing new research tools or collaborating with researchers to develop strains to carry out research projects. They will also direct the work of an undergraduate research assistant tasked with making sterile media and sterilizing glassware to support this work. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Conducts experiments and routine procedures. Monitors/evaluates experiments. Maintains records/reports. Collects data from experiments. Performs data analysis. Writes interpretative reports/summaries. Conducts literature searches. May contribute to design of experimental protocols and research. Orders lab supplies. Orders/maintains chemical inventories. Performs other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
