EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program Must have experience with Windows based applications. Licensed by the State of Iowa, RRT,RCP or CRT,RCP Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification within 6 months of hire ACLS, BLS required PALS Ability to read, write, speak, and understand fluent English BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF JOBThe staff therapist is responsible for providing all cardio pulmonary care to patients of all ages following established standards and practices. This employee will perform patient assessment and intervention in accordance with the level of training received during orientation. Will be competent to provide care to patients in the following categories: newborn, infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics. The Respiratory Therapist works with patients of all ages and in many different care settings. They are members of the health care team that provide care for patients with heart and lung disorders. The Respiratory therapy staff work with the Doctors and nurses as a team to provide quality health care for our patients. Respiratory therapists perform procedures that are both diagnostic and therapeutic. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ability to maintain confidentiality; and both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients, and visitors, and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment. Incorporates Mission, Vision and Core Values of LCHC into department, and ensures departmental employees and self adhere to these. Wears appropriate apparel for the position and displays nametag upon such apparel. Demonstrates regular and predictable work attendance. Demonstrates flexibility as patient care needs change. Adheres to all LCHC Polices & Procedures, as well as all regulatory guidelines, laws, regulation by outside agency including Federal Compliance & LCHC Compliance programs. Attends meetings and serves on committees as requested Assists with quality management including collection, compilation, and reporting of that data Assists in other areas as requested/necessary Other duties as assigned Performs approved testing in the laboratory Respiratory Therapy services included but not limited to:1. Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing (IPPB)2. Aerosol treatments3. Chest Physio-therapy4. Breathing exercises5. Pulmonary functions studies6. Know all respiratory medications used with breathing treatments7. Operation and maintenance of all Respiratory Therapy equipment8. Oral suctioning for sputum culture or as needed to be airway maintenance Electrocardiogram procedures included but not limited to: 1. Routine EKG2. Stat EKG3. Transmitted EKG4. Rhythm strip5. Holter monitors6. Pacemaker test7. Stress treadmills8. Cardiac Stress Testing 9. Operation and maintenance of all EKG equipment Oxygen Therapy including but not limited to: 1. Set up oxygen as ordered by physician (all types)2. Do daily oxygen rounds3. Protocol to set up home patients needing oxygen/breathing treatments4. Set up and monitoring oxygen analyzer5. Set up and monitoring pulse oximeter6. Operation and maintenance of all oxygen equipment Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation including but not limited to: 1. Respond to Code Blue calls and assist where needed2. Keeps current in CPR re-certification and performs in emergencies3. Knowledgeable of ambu bag and hyperventilation equipment4. Ventilate via appropriate means Record Keeping including but not limited to:1. Charts all therapy procedures performed2. Complete all forms on services provided3. Do daily department charges4. Log all procedures in department records5. Able to order necessary supplies for all department areas6. Know scheduling protocol of all diagnostic tests7. Assist with quality assurance and monthly stats8. Knowledge of protocol used to set up home patients with oxygen or breathing treatments9. Familiar with all policies and procedures of department10. Knows where all equipment are stored11. Keeps department manager informed12. Able to do patient assessment and inform physician of proper therapy when Respiratory Therapy consult is ordered13. Able to assist with educational programs14. Knowledge of clinical theory of Respiratory Care Additional Responsibilities:1. Will be the technician in charge upon the absence of the Department Manager2. Able to take verbal or phone orders from physician for the department s procedures and/or write in patient s chart as appropriate3. Knowledge of the clinical theory or Respiratory Care4. Able to do patient assessment and inform physician of proper therapy when R.T. consult is ordered 5. Alert assist with educational programs
