Job Summary (Certified Respiratory Therapist)

- Administer safe and competent respiratory care as ordered by physicians, with emphasis in specialty areas (Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care).
- Monitor mechanical ventilation and interpret flow/volume and pressure/volume curves to initiate appropriate clinical changes.
- Administer respiratory medications and perform patient assessments, including understanding hemodynamic monitoring and blood work results.
- Perform airway management, including bag/mask ventilation, assisting with intubation, and using artificial airways and suction techniques appropriately.
- Initiate, maintain, and monitor ventilator patients, and perform arterial blood gas draws.
- Document all respiratory care procedures accurately and completely as per department policy.
- Verify and interpret respiratory care physician's orders and provide accurate patient reports during shift changes.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of all respiratory care equipment; perform troubleshooting and resolve problems as needed.
- Assist with orientation and training of new employees, students, and precept new hires.
- Translate medication dosages for neonatal and pediatric patients; appropriately assess and treat patients of all age groups including geriatric.
- Ensure compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) standards and hospital safety/infection control policies.
- Perform patient charge reconciliation and verify accuracy/timeliness of payroll submissions.
- Attend and participate in department meetings, in-services, patient care rounds, and required training/education.
- Maintain effective communication and working relationships with patients, staff, and vendors.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to the hospital's dress code and professional standards.
- Participate in departmental and organizational quality improvement activities and ensure compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of a COARC-approved Respiratory Care Program with CRT credential (NBRC guidelines).
- BLS certification (within 90 days of hire); NRP certification (within 6 months of hire).
- At least one year of hospital respiratory experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must meet legal work, background, and health requirements.

Preferred:
- Experience in pulmonary and cardiac diagnostics (EKG, Holter monitor, Event Monitor, Cardiac Stress Testing).
