The ReStore is a retail social enterprise that sells donated furniture, appliances, cabinetry, lighting, building materials and more at discounted prices to the public to generate important revenue supporting Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouths mission of building affordable homes. Additionally, the ReStore aims to protect natural resources by promoting the reuse of good quality household items and building materials that would otherwise be thrown in a landfill; to become a well-known, reputable retail location in the community; and to appeal to conscientious consumers of the local circular economy.

The ReStore Manager is responsible for the overall business performance of the ReStore with priority responsibilities on the procurement, marketing and sale of donated items in a volume necessary to achieve sales targets; the planning and execution of an effective and efficient inventory system; operational management of facility space; and the training and management of ReStore staff.

The ideal candidate must be a team-oriented leader who embraces innovative thinking to meet ambitious growth goals. You must be committed to excellent customer service, driven by a self-motivated industrious work ethic, and have strong leadership and interpersonal skills. You must welcome new marketing strategies and technologies and have the ability to establish our presence on untapped social platforms. You must have a positive, welcoming and professional demeanor and the ability to work effectively and considerately with a diverse group of people. You must develop a solid understanding of Habitat for Humanity and its protocols, and act as an ambassador of the Habitat mission as well as the ReStores role. This is a full-time, salaried position reporting to the Exec. Director.

Responsibilities:

Store Operations:

  • Promote item donations and drive sales and profits of the ReStore
  • Oversee effective merchandising of the floor, maximizing available space and using inventory control and pricing strategies to ensure appropriate turnover
  • Track sales data to determine categories with high to low volume and adjust procurement strategies to meet customer demand.
  • Develop and oversee new product inventory system and customer traffic tracking system per best practices
  • Fulfill cash register/point of sale system duties as needed
  • Grow and maintain the Cabinet Deconstruction program as a successful profit center
  • Implement and review policies and procedures for the safe, secure and high quality performance of all aspects of ReStore activities

Marketing & Partnership Development

  • Develop marketing and advertising programs, with emphasis on social media, to build stores visibility across diverse demographics and markets; collaborate with fellow staff as appropriate
  • Establish and maintain relationships with donors (individuals, businesses, contractors, community groups, etc) to increase quality and quantity of merchandise donations and sales opportunities
  • Conduct in-person visits to businesses in the local area regularly
  • Develop relationships with other ReStore Managers to identify best practices, effective programs and collaboration opportunities

Team Management

  • Hire and train ReStore staff; establish annual performance goals and monitor results; provide guidance and professional development opportunities; address areas for improvement
  • Manage staff schedules to ensure store full coverage
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Manager to supplement schedule and activities with volunteers; recruit Cabinet Deconstruction Team volunteers and provide proper training
  • Complete written annual performance reviews for ReStore staff; conduct annual review meetings in conjunction with Executive Director.
  • Attend and participate in ReStore-related and management training opportunities

Finance & Administration

  • Ensure compliance with all established financial reporting practices; oversee reconciling of daily sales and the daily closing out of all financial transactions
  • Develop and enforce pricing policy and processes for store merchandise. Review and adjust pricing as necessary for changing market conditions.
  • Maintain operation within the annual budget, track monthly expenses, recommend capital expenditures, and set yearly revenue growth goals.
  • Recommend changes to vendors for cost savings when needed; approve payable invoices on a timely basis to bookkeeper
  • Provide written monthly Board report including sales trends, above average expenses, and outreach efforts to provide a snapshot of the current state of the ReStore; compile data for annual ReStore report for HFHI

Other Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Standing schedule consists of 5 days per week, Tuesday Saturday; attendance at occasional meetings and events off-hours required.
  • Current valid MA drivers license with clean driving record and reliable transportation required; ability to drive a 14 16 box truck with lift gate preferred
  • Physical ability to perform tasks, including bending and lifting 75+ pounds, ability to stand for long periods of time.
