Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Manager within our revenue recognition accounting team to play a pivotal role in our revenue recognition process. You will develop a deep understanding of how we generate revenue and how the related Lifetime Value (LTV) is calculated via our model and automated workflows. You will ensure the integrity of key workflows by understanding the systems, the flow of transactions, and related internal controls in the revenue recognition process. The ideal candidate must possess strong accounting and operational expertise, the ability to communicate and partner cross-functionally, and a desire to make a meaningful impact on a dynamic, high-growth insur-tech company. You are a strong translator between accounting and the business; you take complex financial data and turn it into simple, purposeful, and impactful narratives for various audiences. Technologically Savvy, you have utilized software or leaned on automation tools to optimize processes.  You are excited to learn new tools/systems that allow you to focus on putting your analytical skills to work. This is a fast-paced and evolving environment; you should be able to pivot on the fly to focus on the changing priorities of the team.  The company is evolving, and so is this role and that excites you. Additionally, the candidate should have the ability to analyze and interpret data, identify revenue trends, and proactively pinpoint anomalies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage workflows within our revenue recognition process to ensure accuracy and completeness.   
  • Utilize data-driven insights to assess revenue patterns, trends, and anomalies.
  • Assess the impact of varying assumptions on revenue projections and provide insights for risk mitigation.
  • Oversee the collection, organization, and maintenance of data sources that feed into the revenue model ensuring data accuracy and reliability.
  • Possess the ability to understand how revenue is generated within the organization, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the business model, and key revenue drivers.
  • Understand and adhere to SOX controls in support of revenue management activities.
  • Manage deliverables to external auditors.
  • Work cross-functionally with several teams across the organization.
  • Proactively identify and investigate revenue anomalies, working closely with teams to resolve discrepancies and mitigate risks.
  • Manage a team of revenue professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative environment.

Primary Skills & Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years public accounting experience with a minimum of four years industry experience, as well as demonstratable experience managing and leading high functioning teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy that is results-oriented with a “can do” attitude and willingness to drive process change within the team, taking on additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent understanding of internal controls and experience with risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Problem-solving mindset and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to deal with complex problems and present recommendations and findings in a clear, concise format.
  • A quick and adept learner who adapts well to a fast-moving environment
  • Desire to develop an understanding of the business as it relates to revenue generation.
  • Prior knowledge of ASC 606 is a plus but is not necessary.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Ability to be in the office 5 days a week.
