What You’ll Do
As the Risk Manager, you will direct a $20M+ safety and risk portfolio and lead a high-performing team focused on mitigating loss and ensuring compliance. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, guide insurance and claims strategy, and collaborate across departments to promote a strong culture of safety, wellness, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and manage a team of 11 (including 8 direct reports) across risk, safety, insurance, and health programs
- Oversee strategic development, budgeting, and performance tracking of the Risk Division
- Serve as an internal advisor to department leaders and elected officials on risk-related matters
- Represent the organization in high-level meetings, mediations, and negotiations
Claims & Insurance Oversight
- Manage in-house adjusters and third-party administrators for property, liability, auto, and workers’ compensation claims
- Oversee all phases of claims: intake, investigation, litigation, resolution, and settlement
- Develop insurance programs and negotiate with carriers; submit underwriting data and evaluate risk retention/transfer strategies
Risk, Safety & Compliance
- Develop and enforce risk and safety policies aligned with federal, state, and local regulations
- Identify exposures and mitigate risks across real estate, personnel, and operational assets
- Review contracts and projects for indemnification and insurance requirements
- Draft and administer RFPs and service agreements related to risk and EAP programs
Occupational Health & Emergency Preparedness
- Oversee Employee Health Center compliance, policies, and strategic alignment with occupational wellness goals
- Participate in emergency response activities, serving as the Safety/Risk Unit in the Emergency Operations Center when activated
