Job Summary (List Format) Clinical Nurse (Alaska)
- Provide age-appropriate nursing care to patients of all ages, coordinating and performing various nursing procedures and interventions as per provider orders and hospital/nursing policies.
- Maintain full accountability for all nursing actions and clinical decisions; work independently and consult with managers or other departments as needed in complex situations.
- React calmly and make sound judgments in emergency situations; properly delegate and supervise CNA/Tech staff.
- Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with multisystem diseases or treatment complications, using appropriate infection control and prioritizing care based on patient acuity.
- Anticipate potential patient problems and adapt to changes or emergencies by setting priorities and revising care as needed.
- Administer age-specific medications and treatments accurately and document all nursing procedures according to departmental policy.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to carry out care plans and coordinate patient care activities.
- Educate patients and families about disease processes, tests, and procedures, providing teaching and counseling to support understanding and coping.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process, including thorough admission assessments, ongoing reassessments, and care plan updates.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Transcribe and note physician orders accurately; develop, document, and update patient care plans and shift reports.
- Participate in patient care conferences, in-services, and educational programs for personal and staff development; maintain required certifications and complete mandatory training.
- Communicate positively and constructively with patients, families, staff, and healthcare team; assist with orientation of new staff and provide leadership and guidance.
- Comply with hospital and departmental policies, scheduling guidelines, dress code, and attend at least 50% of staff meetings; participate in unit goal setting and resolve issues with appropriate management.
- Maintain and demonstrate knowledge of nursing principles, pharmaceuticals, and medical equipment relevant to the specialty area.
- Recognize and respond to emergently ill patients and adverse signs/symptoms promptly, including life-saving procedures when necessary.
- Required Qualifications:
- Current, unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska (must submit 2 fingerprint cards upon acceptance)
- Current BLS and PALS upon hire; ACLS within 6 months
- Current flu vaccination
- One year clinical nurse experience preferred; specialty experience preferred
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts (day or night)
- Specialty certifications as applicable (CPI, ENPC, RNFA, TNCC, etc.)
