Contract Labor & Delivery Nurse (L&D) with Postpartum Experience Nights Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Nurse with Postpartum (PP) experience for a contract opportunity at a small Critical Access Hospital in Texas. This is a quick-start position ideal for nurses who are confident, adaptable, and experienced in rural healthcare settings.

Facility & Department Overview
  • 25-bed Critical Access Hospital

  • Level III Trauma Center

  • Designated Level I Maternal & Neonatal Care

  • Approximately 15 20 deliveries per month

  • EMR: CPSI/Evident (OBIX for fetal monitoring)

  • Night shift assignment

This is a close-knit department typically staffed with a two-person team. Most nurses are cross-trained and expected to function competently in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Nursery roles.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn patients

  • Perform strong maternal and fetal assessments

  • Interpret and manage Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)

  • Assist with deliveries and provide immediate newborn care

  • Support lactation education and postpartum recovery

  • Collaborate effectively within a small team environment

Ideal Candidate
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent L&D experience

  • Prior rural healthcare experience strongly preferred

  • Strong independent assessment and critical-thinking skills

  • Comfortable working in a small department with broad responsibilities

  • Active state RN license required

Required Certifications
  • BLS

  • ACLS

  • PALS

  • NRP

  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN or equivalent)

Additional certifications such as STABLE and other maternal-child health credentials are highly valued.
