Cooperidge Consulting Firm is seeking an RN Med Surg/Orthopedic for a top Healthcare client.

This key nursing role delivers comprehensive, specialized care to a diverse patient population on a Medical-Surgical unit with a dedicated focus on orthopedic conditions and post-operative recovery. The position requires strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills to manage pain, monitor for complications, and facilitate the safe mobility and rehabilitation of surgical and medical orthopedic patients.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, high-quality nursing care to assigned medical-surgical and orthopedic patients, adhering to established unit protocols.
  • Assess, monitor, and manage post-operative pain and surgical sites for patients recovering from orthopedic procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient mobility and recovery plans.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments accurately, including managing specialized orthopedic equipment (e.g., traction, CPM machines).
  • Educate patients and families thoroughly on post-operative care, pain management, and safe discharge instructions.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and utilize decisive judgment to prioritize and manage a complex patient workload.
  • Maintain accurate, concise, and timely documentation of all patient interventions and outcomes in the electronic health record (EHR).

Requirements

Education

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent RN experience is required.
  • Direct Orthopedic Nursing experience is mandatory.
  • Candidates with experience in Long-Term Acute Care (LTACH) and Home Health settings will be considered.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Florida or a compact state is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is preferred; required within six (6) months of hire.

Skills

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and decisive judgment in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service abilities, including effective listening and professional communication.
  • Physical ability to perform work requiring frequent standing, bending, and lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
