Job Description

Title: Safety Coordinator (Industrial Data Center Support)

Location: Northern Virginia

Duration: 4 months (High potential for extension/direct conversion)

Pay Range: $25.00 – $32.00/hour ($25/hour entry-level; $28–$32 for 3+ years exp); OT after 40 hours

Per Diem: $68/day M&I. Lodging provided (Shared corporate housing; max 4 per unit)

Expected Work Schedule: 6 days a week, 60-72 hours per week. Potential for 3rd shift (Night Shift)

Target Start Date: ASAP (Following a 2–3-week orientation/training period in South Carolina)

Overview

We are seeking a professional, high-character Safety Coordinator to support specialized fiber installation and splicing teams on a large-scale data center project. This is an entry-to-mid-level "field support" role, acting as a collaborative liaison between field crews and the owner's safety team. We prioritize attitude, communication skills, and reliability over extensive years of experience; we are seeking "long-haul" individuals looking for a career path in industrial safety.

Core Responsibilities

  • Onboarding & Training: Participate in a 2–3-week orientation in South Carolina to master internal safety processes, digital reporting systems, and project-specific expectations before deploying to the Virginia site.
  • Field Presence: Maintain a consistent "boots-on-the-ground" presence (significant daily walking required). Act as a professional "buffer" to ensure work flows efficiently without compromising safety standards.
  • Prioritized Oversight: Provide dedicated oversight for cable-pulling operations and secondary support for technical splicing teams.
  • Specialized Hazard Management: Enforce strict disposal protocols for micro-debris (fiber shards) and oversee safety for aerial lift work (interior) and confined space entries (exterior).
  • Daily Routine: Lead morning hazard briefings and deliver daily Toolbox Talks. Serve as the primary point of contact for the client’s safety representatives to ensure continuous site access.
  • Administrative Discipline: Manage all digital documentation (JHA/PTPs) via a mobile application. Responsible for both start-of-shift and end-of-shift reporting.
  • Safety Authority: Exercise full "Stop Work Authority" to correct unsafe acts or remove damaged equipment (e.g., ladders/tools) according to company policy.

Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 (Minimum Required). (OSHA 500 is not required for this level).
  • Certifications: Current certifications in Confined Space, Aerial Lift, Fall Protection, and Competent Person status.
  • Character: High-level professionalism and punctuality are mandatory. We seek individuals who lead by example and set a positive, contagious tone for the field crews.
  • Physicality: Must be capable of walking multiple miles daily and working in rigorous, fast-paced industrial environments.
  • Background: Candidates with experience in Utility, Pipeline, Railroad, or Heavy Civil Construction have historically been highly successful in this role.
  • Logistics: Must be willing to travel, live in shared corporate housing, and work non-standard shifts (including nights) if required by the project schedule.
