Safety Specialist Position Overview:
The Safety Specialist partners closely with departments across the organization to strengthen and advance our safety program through hands-on support, training, and field engagement. Reporting to the Safety Manager, this role delivers required safety training, conducts inspections and audits, and ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory standards. This is a highly visible, field-focused position for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and building strong safety partnerships.
In this role you should expect to:
- Large focus on delivering and coordinating classroom + hands-on training (LOTO, Fall Pro, Mobile equipment)
- Support and improve LOTO (procedures, periodic inspections, authorized training, verification)
- Support and improve Fall protection (planning, equipment inspection, anchors, compliance)
- Support and improve Mobile equipment / PIT & MEWP (qualification support, daily inspections, operating rules, pedestrian separation)
- Conduct regular walk-through inspections, audits, and field observations across production areas, shops, yards, facilities, and job sites
- Identify hazards, recommend solutions, and drive corrective actions through closure
- Partner with supervisors to manage high-risk work activities such as energy isolation, work at heights, mobile equipment operations, and contractor activity
- Fall protection planning, equipment inspections, and compliance
- Mobile equipment qualification, inspections, and safe operating practices
- Manage training schedules, assignments, compliance tracking, and reporting through EHS/LMS systems
- Assist departments with safe work permits and pre-job safety assessments
- Investigate incidents and near misses; conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Maintain safety documentation including training records, inspection reports, and corrective actions
- Support multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Promote and champion a proactive, positive safety culture
- Follow all company policies and perform other duties as assigned
Who you are:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- 1–3 years of safety/EHS experience in general industry, agriculture, construction, manufacturing, or a related field
- Practical, hands-on knowledge of mobile equipment (forklifts, scissor/boom lifts), lockout/tagout (LOTO), fall protection, and other OSHA-related safety practices
- Experience delivering safety training and coaching in the field (e.g., forklift, LOTO, fall protection, etc.)
- Experience assisting with incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities
- Self-directed, dependable, and able to follow detailed instructions with minimal supervision
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to effectively engage and support a diverse workforce
- Sound judgment, decision-making ability, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Teams, Excel, SharePoint) and familiarity with EHS software/LMS systems (HSI, Intelex preferred)
- Experience in general manufacturing and small-scale construction environments preferred
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and stand or walk for extended periods
- Must maintain a clean driving record
- Ability to work occasional evenings or nights (approximately once per month)
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. frequently and up to 15 pounds repeatedly
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to walk, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, climb
- Ability to work in all weather conditions (heat and cold)
- Able to work in dusty environments
- Ability to drive and operate company truck
