We are looking for a Scientist Combination Product Characterisation to join the Advanced Materials Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group within Analytical Development in Beerse (Belgium).AMCI is an international and diverse team of scientists focused on advanced analytical characterization of pharmaceutical products and global analytical investigations supporting both commercial products and the Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) organization.In this lab-based role, you will specialize in the hands-on characterization of combination products and polymer-based components, generating high-quality mechanical, dimensional, and spectroscopic data that directly support product design, development, verification, and troubleshooting.Your responsibilitiesPerform advanced material characterization using mechanical testing, imaging, and spectroscopy techniquesPlan, execute, and optimize mechanical tests (e.g. tensile, compression, injectability, bending, adhesion and detachment force)Conduct dimensional metrology and fit/form assessments of componentsApply spectroscopic and imaging techniques (e.g. IR, microscopy) to investigate polymer identity, morphology, and structure–property relationshipsInterpret and report results, providing clear, data-driven scientific insightsDevelop, validate, and document analytical methods, including test parameters and acceptance criteriaEnsure proper equipment operation, maintenance, and calibration in compliance with laboratory standardsCollaborate with cross-functional teams and present results in technical and project meetingsYour profilePhD (or equivalent) in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physics, or related fieldHands-on laboratory experience in mechanical testing and material characterizationExperience with combination products or medical devices is a strong plusFamiliarity with imaging and/or spectroscopy techniques (e.g. IR, Raman, SEM, optical microscopy) is an advantageStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detailAbility to design experiments, analyze data, and interpret results independentlyStrong communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary, international teamsFluent in English (written and spoken)Choosing Arcadis means a dynamic work environment, interesting projects, and excellent opportunities for personal and professional growth!Join Arcadis.
