Job Duties

This is a part-time (16-29 hours per week) position***. Various shifts are available, with some flexibility in scheduling provided. Duties and Responsibilities: Monitor and make rounds to ensure VSU community members and facilities safety and security. Typical responsibilities: lock and unlock University buildings, doors, and classrooms; provide visitors and University community members with information and directions to campus buildings, classrooms, and off-campus areas. Notify campus police of suspicious persons, activities, or safety hazards found during a tour of duty; maintain accurate records and logs of activity; operate security & state vehicles; respond to complaints and preliminary investigations. Answer alarms and disturbances, contact police, fire, & rescue in case of an emergency, and follow established University emergency procedures. Patrol among visitors and University community members to preserve order and protect property. Patrol parking lots and issue warnings to persons with rule infractions or law violations and write tickets for parking violations. Perform other duties as assigned. Security Officers must be accountable for their actions and dependable in their attendance.

***Compensation package includes a $1,000 Sign-On Bonus w/Tenure Agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess sound judgment, discretion, and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Must be proficient in basic computer skills (MS Word or equivalent, Outlook, etc.)

  • Have a valid drivers license and good driving history.

  • Successfully pass a background review, including criminal history and driving history.

Additional Considerations

  • Some years of post-high school work experience is preferred.

  • High school graduate or equivalent
