Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Security Officer to join at our world-class Pogo Operations. This opportunity is offered on a 2 week on, 2 weeks off rotating roster at Pogo Mine's remote camp near Delta Junction, Alaska. What's the role? The Security Officer reports to the OHST Superintendent and the primary role is to provide security coverage for the mine site. This includes inspection, documentation, intervention and reporting within the OHST Department. Duties include: Patrols, monitors and inspects the Mine site for security and safety issues, breaches and hazards. Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and contractors. Inspects security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of malfunction or tampering. Assist in the site-wide inspection of fire extinguishers, sprinkler, and alarm systems. Responds to alarms and investigates disturbances. Writes reports of shift activities and irregularities. Assists with security functions related to the Mill Refinery. Checks and takes charge of duty registers and log books from previous shift. Manages site-wide keys. Monitors behavior of suspicious persons and movement of vehicles and stores. Provides animal hazing in accordance with Mine procedures. Provides relief medical services to the mine in the absence of Physician Assistants. What are we looking for? You’ll be a highly organized individual who will display behavior consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development. The specifics: Experience in the provision of security services. Previous training/certification and experience in firearms, wildlife hazing, and non-lethal force applications. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Able to work independently with little direct supervision. Effective interpersonal skills, ability to deal with conflict and de-escalate and should possess exceptional judgment and people-skills in order to effectively address conflicts in a de-escalatory fashion. Effective written, verbal, and communication skills. Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Industrial or Occupational medical qualification. Experience in the provision of emergency and non-critical medical services in a remote camp environment. The Details: Working a 14 day on, 14 day off, off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area. Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, internet & cable tv programs. Cell service is available when using Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska. WORK SCHEDULE & ENVIRONMENT This role will work a rotational schedule at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light, in and around artificial light. Why join us?
