THE POSITION

If you enjoy working in the great outdoors and are looking for an exciting opportunity, look no further. The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a Semi Skilled Laborer to join their team within the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation. Dont delay and apply today!


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position you will perform the necessary labor and can operate a variety of light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment to maintain treatment at various active and passive acid mine drainage (AMD) treatment systems in both the Bituminous and Anthracite Districts under the responsibility of the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation (BAMR), Acid Mine Drainage Division. This work may include working under hazardous and dangerous conditions. Some of the job duties you will perform will be:

  • Operating, maintaining, and repairing hand power tools such as electric drills, power saws, chain saws, and multi-purpose saws.
  • Operating and providing routine and general preventative maintenance to equipment such as an excavator, backhoe/loader, skid steer, pipe cleaner, snowplow, riding/push mowers, and weed eaters after being properly trained.
  • Operating Commonwealth-owned vehicles to travel to work sites and collect water samples from various locations.
  • Collecting water samples, conducting measurements and, recording findings as assigned.
  • Conducting occasional inspection and maintenance of active or passive treatment systems.
  • Maintaining an inventory of construction/maintenance materials, lubricants, and other operating supplies and reports levels to the supervisor.
  • Assisting in the construction and installation of weirs and other monitoring equipment, as required.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Occasional overtime may be required for completing job assignments while onsite or travel before or after work hours. Field work, project sites may be over 50 miles away.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C drivers license or equivalent.

Post-Employment Requirement:
  • This position requires you to obtain a Class A CDL within one year.
