Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to support the organization’s core accounting operations. This role is responsible for managing daily accounting activities, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting the close process across monthly, quarterly, and annual cycles. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on experience with Oracle ERP systems, and the ability to operate effectively in a structured, compliance-driven environment. This position also serves as a key resource for addressing union member inquiries related to benefit plans.
Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day accounting activities, including journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper classification of financial data.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and required documentation.
- Ensure deadlines are met and financial data is reported accurately.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather and validate financial information.
- Prepare and review account reconciliations, ensuring all balances are properly supported.
- Analyze financial results and variances, identifying trends and potential issues.
- Maintain organized and audit-ready supporting documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of internal and external financial reports.
- Generate reports from Oracle and other systems to support management decision-making.
- Maintain accounting records in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
- Support audits by providing requested documentation and explanations.
- Ensure adherence to established accounting standards and procedures.
- Utilize Oracle ERP for transaction processing, reporting, and reconciliation activities.
- Maintain data accuracy within the system and assist with system enhancements or process improvements.
- Troubleshoot system-related issues and collaborate with IT or finance teams as needed.
- Respond to inquiries from union members regarding benefit plans, payments, and account-related matters.
- Provide clear, accurate, and timely information while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
- Coordinate with internal teams to resolve complex issues or discrepancies.
- Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and consistency within accounting processes.
- Recommend and implement improvements to workflows, controls, and reporting practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a mid-to-large organization.
- Strong experience working with Oracle ERP systems (Oracle Financials, Oracle Cloud, or similar).
- Solid understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Proven experience with general ledger reconciliations and financial close processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions and data analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience supporting audits and working within a controlled, compliance-focused environment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments.
