The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring that transactions of the business have been properly accounted for and accurately reflect the company's accounting process. This position will have no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for entry level accountants. The Senior Accountant addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, balance sheet reconciliation, inter-company accounting, sales tax reporting, year-end audit preparation and annual budget preparation. This position will have contact with upper management, work directly with Plant Controllers and report to the Accounting Manager.
  • Maintain and control the general ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as in compliance with Corporate Accounting guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist the Corporate Accounting Manager and Plant Controllers with month-end close through preparation of monthly journal entries, month end accruals and reporting.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
  • Review and analyze financial information and prepare financial reports and accounting statements so that senior management has accurate and timely information for making financial decisions.
  • Assist with annual external audits by communicating with auditors and providing supporting schedules as requested.
  • Maintain the sales tax reporting application to ensure sales tax is calculated, collected and remitted in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review inter-company transactions and generate invoices as necessary, ensuring balances tie out with subsidiaries.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure within multiple systems.
  • Assist in the annual budget preparation, providing direction to functional or operational area managers.
  • Coach less experienced accounting staff and help them resolve problems.
  • Create ad-hoc reporting and work on special projects as required by Senior Management.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base and understanding of GAAP.
  • Propose and implement improvements to current processes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in accounting plus three to five years of full cycle accounting experience is required. CPA with manufacturing accounting experience is a plus. Knowledge of and experience in using integrated accounting systems. Must posses and demonstrate knowledge of financial regulations, laws, and reporting requirements.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Acute attention to detail. Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate with all levels of management both verbally and in writing. Ability to work collaboratively across business functions. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (sumifs, sumproduct, pivots, vlookups, linking, formula auditing, shortcuts, etc.)
Physical Demand Requirements

Occasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
