The Senior Associate, Regulatory and Government Affairs plays a critical role in monitoring and analyzing regulatory and policy developments in priority states, ensuring internal teams stay informed of impactful changes. Acting as a strategic partner, this role provides regulatory expertise to guide business growth strategies, operational decision-making, and commercial initiatives, while also advocating for favorable policy outcomes to support the company’s interests. This position ensures that regulatory context is seamlessly integrated into the company’s strategic and operational goals.
What You’ll Do
Regulatory Influence and Awareness (60%)
- Represent the Company under guidance of SVP Regulatory Affairs in designated professional industry organizations.
- Participate in external stakeholder engagement, effectively communicate the benefits of distributed energy storage and or solar, enabling verticals, and help build strategic partnerships and coalitions for advancement of Convergents’ regulatory priorities.
- Synthesize policy and regulatory information and provide succinct written reports on a regularly defined basis identifying key developments, business opportunities, and risks for senior leaders to consider when making strategic decisions.
Operational and Commercial Understanding (20%)
- Support the advancement of active sales projects by working with the relevant Go to Market leads to inform strategic actions, help resolve ambiguous regulatory rules, and when needed facilitate engagement with outside experts.
- Develop and maintain a sufficient understanding of Convergent’s business strategy and priorities to adequately translate regulatory events and updates to business impacts and prospects.
- Awareness of new and changing market rules to get Convergent involved in rule development and provide tactical guidance to SVP and management on where to grow business.
- Provide tactical information to support corporate strategic decisions on new markets to enter and new products to develop based upon pending policy or regulatory changes.
Collaboration and Leadership (20%)
- Work collaboratively within the Strategy Team to learn about and inform strategies for market growth and portfolio expansion.
- Respond to requests for additional information related to regulatory and policy developments that originate from all verticals of the company.
- Lead in-depth research projects on issues of strategic importance to the business (e.g. an incentive program, regulatory change, etc.) and present findings to relevant team members.
- Work collaboratively with other stakeholders, including electric utilities, renewable energy companies, energy consumer groups, environmental groups, and trade unions, to help achieve business objectives.
- Provide direction to external consultants and resources and to internal junior employees where needed under SVP, RAGA supervision.
- Work with relevant team leads to develop strategies that will develop new business opportunities and/or mitigate negative impacts.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 2-5 years’ foundational experience with North American energy policy and regulatory work, at State and or Federal level, required; with particular focus on storage and other new technologies.
- Strategic thinker, able to critically review regulatory and market related documents and communications.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships with other policy stakeholders and or regulators.
- Proven ability to independently advocate for company interests at state or federal levels based on strategic direction previously determined by SVP Regulatory Affairs.
- Ability to independently navigate external discussions within scope of strategy and self-awareness and acknowledgment of knowledge gaps to confidently seek support when necessary.
- Capability to independently manage projects or initiatives with minimal oversight, while demonstrating sound judgment in knowing when to seek guidance or escalate issues to leadership.
- This is an individual contributor role and therefore does not have any direct reports.
- This role requires the ability to independently provide direction to external resources based on strategic guidance from SVP.
- Strong organizational and people management skills, with flexibility and creativity to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to distill large amounts of complex information into clear, succinct analysis.
- Engagement with electric industry leaders and decision makers shaping the grid of tomorrow.
- 25% of time spent traveling to attend industry meetings or corporate events. Driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in renewable energy / new technology policy development. Advocacy before or employment by state regulatory commissions, government agencies, and/or wholesale market operators. State-level work in the Northeast, such as New York and Massachusetts, is particularly useful.
- Understanding of resource adequacy, grid reliability planning, grid decarbonization planning, and retail and wholesale market design.
- Experience in developing energy resource projects connecting to the distribution or transmission grid desirable.

Base Salary Range: $105,000- $120,000; Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience.
