Mighty Fine Apps is a fast-growing company dedicated to creating innovative apps that empower the deaf and hard of hearing community. Our flagship product, , provides real-time transcription services that transform lives. We’re embarking on a green field project to build a new backend and account system, and to bring many frequently requested features to life.

Position Overview

We’re looking for an experienced Backend Developer to spearhead the development of our new backend infrastructure for Live Transcribe. Your primary focus will be designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend systems and APIs — including high-throughput real-time endpoints. While strong backend skills are essential, experience in iOS or front-end web development is a bonus. We’re partial to Node.js and Express, but we’re open to other proven backend technologies if you can demonstrate excellence and leadership in the field.

Responsibilities

• Backend System Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend systems and RESTful APIs, including high-throughput websocket endpoints.
• Green Field Project Leadership: Take ownership of developing a new backend and account system that supports key features and enhances user experience.
• Integration & Collaboration: Work closely with mobile and web developers, product teams, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration with client-facing applications.
• Cloud & Infrastructure Management: Oversee deployment, monitoring, and scaling of backend services on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or comparable alternatives).
• Quality & Best Practices: Implement robust testing, code reviews, and continuous integration practices to maintain a high standard of code quality.
• Innovation & Problem Solving: Gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and iterate on solutions in a dynamic, agile environment.

Qualifications

• Backend Expertise: 3+ years of experience in backend development with a proven track record in building scalable APIs and systems.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong experience with Node.js and Express (or equivalent backend frameworks); deep understanding of RESTful API design.
• Database Knowledge: Solid experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and strong database design principles.
• Cloud Experience: Familiarity with cloud-based deployment, monitoring, and scaling solutions (AWS preferred, or similar platforms).
• Remote Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fully remote, distributed team.
• Bonus Skills:
• Experience in iOS development (Swift, SwiftUI, etc.) is a major plus.
• Front-end web development experience is also beneficial.
