Description The Senior Backend Developer - Software Engineer at Hyper Solutions plays a key role in designing, building, and scaling the software systems that power Hyper’s manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for developing and enhancing backend systems that enable engineering, operations, and service teams to manage manufacturing processes and data within a cohesive, high-performance web ecosystem. This role contributes to the evolution of Hyper’s proprietary software platform, helping unify fragmented systems and drive efficiency across the organization. The Staff Software Engineer operates at a high level of ownership, influencing architecture decisions and ensuring systems are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business needs. Core Responsibilities Design and implement backend microservices using Node.js and TypeScript Build scalable APIs for internal tools and external system integrations Optimize database schemas, queries, and performance using PostgreSQL Architect and evolve event-driven, asynchronous system components Lead the modularization of systems into containerized microservices Ensure backend systems are reliable, secure, and scalable in production environments Additional Responsibilities Drive improvements in automated testing, code quality, and system reliability Contribute to CI/CD processes and deployment pipelines Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and service teams Support integrations with third‑party systems such as ERP and PLM platforms Document system architecture, processes, and design decisions Contribute to ongoing enhancements of Hyper’s proprietary software platform Requirements 5+ years of backend software engineering experience using Node.js and TypeScript Strong experience with PostgreSQL, relational data modeling, and performance tuning Experience building and scaling modular, distributed backend systems Deep understanding of RESTful API design, security, and reliability Experience deploying and managing applications in cloud environments (preferably AWS) Experience with CI/CD practices and automated testing frameworks Experience building high‑availability, scalable systems Strong communication and documentation skills Experience integrating with third‑party systems such as ERP or PLM platforms Preferred Qualifications Experience with AWS services such as ECS, RDS, S3, and Lambda Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform Experience working with ORMs such as TypeORM Exposure to frontend technologies such as Vue.js and TailwindCSS Experience with tools such as Puppeteer and Jest Experience working in manufacturing, industrial, or operations‑focused environments What Success Looks Like Backend systems are scalable, reliable, and support business‑critical manufacturing workflows APIs and services are well‑structured, performant, and easy to maintain System architecture evolves toward modular, event‑driven, and maintainable designs Integrations with external systems are robust and enable seamless data flow High test coverage and CI/CD practices improve system stability and deployment speed Engineering teams benefit from strong documentation, collaboration, and technical leadership Why Hyper? Location Remote or Onsite in Richmond, VA, depending on candidate location and business needs. Compensation The anticipated minimum hiring range for this role is $130,000 - $150,000 per year plus bonus. Actual salary varies due to factors that may include, but are not limited to, relevant experience, skills, certifications, and location. This hire will be eligible for a discretionary bonus or incentive compensation. Variable compensation may depend on various factors, such as individual and organizational performance.
