Senior Municipal Engineering Leader (North Dakota Market)

Job Summary
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Municipal Engineering Leader to manage and grow municipal services in the North Dakota market. This high-impact leadership role is ideal for a licensed professional engineer with deep municipal experience, a strategic mindset, and a strong ability to build client relationships. You’ll oversee engineering operations, drive business development, and lead a talented team of engineers while playing a key role in shaping the firm’s municipal sector in North Dakota.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Leadership & Strategy
Set and execute short- and long-term goals for the municipal market in ND
Monitor project budgets and team performance
Collaborate with senior leadership across service sectors
Provide financial and progress reports to company leadership
✅ Business Development
Lead project pursuits and proposal efforts
Develop new client relationships in the public and private sectors
Attend conferences and industry events to represent the firm
Identify strategic partnerships and growth opportunities
✅ Team & Project Oversight
Manage municipal infrastructure and utility projects from concept to completion
Mentor project engineers in profitability, contract negotiation, and risk management
Hire and retain top talent aligned with company goals
Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies
✅ Client Engagement
Serve as the main point of contact for key municipal clients
Attend in-person meetings with engineers and municipal operations staff
Review contracts and discuss upcoming opportunities with clients
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Required)
Licensed PE in North Dakota (or ability to obtain)
10+ years of municipal engineering experience
7+ years of project management experience
Deep understanding of municipal infrastructure and public works in ND
Consulting engineering experience strongly preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Valid driver’s license required
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs
May require prolonged standing, walking, and overnight travel
Frequently works more than 40 hours per week
Must be able to work independently and in team environments
