Mid Level / Senior Cost Estimator Position

We are seeking a full time Cost Estimator with experience on Heavy Civil transportation and transit projects. The firm is known for its team of multidisciplinary industry experts with experience leading major projects. The firm is currently delivering services across Bridge & Structural Engineering, Tunnel Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, and Project Management.

Minimum qualifications for the Senior Cost Estimator position consist of fifteen years or more of general estimating experience directly related to Design Build or Design-Bid-Build delivery methods related to infrastructure engineering and construction activities. Other requirements of this position include estimating experience in heavy civil construction and roadway work, experience in cost estimating software packages - Heavy Construction System Specialist (HCSS) or Timberline, and Microsoft Office products with high proficiency in MS Excel.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Developing detailed capital cost estimates and reviewing those developed by others.
  • Communicate effectively with the client, project managers, other project consultants and senior level management of client organizations.
  • Review of contract documents and contract modifications to determine scope of work and equitable cost allowance for scope changes.
  • Prepare material take-offs and review take-offs by others from planning documents or engineering drawings.
  • Prepare conceptual and comparative cost study estimates from preliminary sketches. Prepare quantity takeoffs to support construction cost estimates for all disciplines.
  • Prepare detailed breakdown of components and elements of estimates for systems and subsystems.
  • Accumulate, evaluate, and document historical cost data for the development of future estimates.

The ideal candidate has:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, Architecture, or related fields are strongly preferred
  • 5-10 years relevant experience for the mid-level position and over 15 years of experience for the senior position - in cost estimating, preferably related to Design Build or Design-Bid-Build delivery methods
  • Experience in estimating track work, rail station, rail signal and power systems, and utilities construction
  • Experience with cost estimating software packages such as Heavy Construction System Specialist (HCSS) or Timberline
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly MS Excel
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and leadership skills
  • Registered professional engineer (PE) or ability to obtain PE registration is strongly preferred.

Candidates with higher levels of experience are welcome and would be considered for additional responsibilities such as leading the construction services for the firm.
