Senior Design Engineer IT/EngineeringLocation: Greenville, SC Hybrid Employment Type: Full-Time/Perm Salary: 130 160kPosition Overview: We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead the engineering and design execution of custom steel structural projects from concept through fabrication and construction support. This role is well-suited for experienced professionals from structural, civil, or industrial engineering backgrounds who have designed steel structures, heavy industrial systems, or complex load-bearing components. The Senior Design Engineer serves as a technical leader, owning design quality and execution while collaborating closely with fabrication, construction, project management, and sales teams. Prior bridge design experience is beneficial but not required. This position is based in Greenville, SC, with consideration for fully remote candidates who can collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.Key ResponsibilitiesLead engineering and design efforts from initial concept and submittal through final approval and fabrication supportDesign steel superstructures and foundations using site data, loading criteria, and sound engineering principlesDevelop, review, and approve design calculations, drawings, and technical documentationApply applicable design standards and codes, including AASHTO, AISC, ASCE, ACI, DOT, ADM, and IBCReview and release shop drawings, engineering submittals, and letters of conformanceCross-Functional CollaborationServe as the primary technical liaison between engineering, drafting, fabrication, and construction teamsProvide technical oversight, guidance, and mentorship to junior and senior engineers and designersPartner closely with fabrication teams to ensure designs are efficient, practical, and constructibleResolve technical and design-related issues during fabrication and coordination phasesProject Execution & Technical SupportManage multiple engineering deliverables across active projects while meeting schedule and quality expectationsSupport project managers to ensure smooth execution from design through constructionCollaborate with sales and estimating teams during pre-award phases to provide technical input and feasibility guidanceAssist in explaining design intent, limitations, and solutions to internal stakeholders as neededProcess Improvement & StandardsMaintain and continuously improve engineering standards, design practices, and workflowsIdentify opportunities to enhance efficiency, quality, and cross-functional coordinationSupport the development of scalable engineering processes to accommodate continued organizational growthQualifications RequiredBachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Industrial EngineeringMinimum 5 years of experience in structural or load-bearing design (steel, industrial, heavy civil, or similar)Strong understanding of structural behavior, steel systems, and foundation designProficiency in reading, interpreting, and producing structural and fabrication drawingsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, execution-driven environmentStrong communication, organization, and leadership skillsPreferred (Not Required)Experience with small vehicle or pedestrian bridge designFamiliarity with AASHTO and public-sector or DOT-related projectsExperience working directly with steel fabrication teamsPrior experience reviewing and approving the work of junior engineersProficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Tekla, Revit, and/or SolidWorksWhat Sets This Role ApartEngineering-driven organization with a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environmentHighly collaborative culture with close interaction between engineering, fabrication, sales, and project managementOpportunity to play a key role in a growing engineering team, with planned expansionSenior engineers focus on technical leadership, design review, and mentorship, while junior engineers support design executionProjects include custom steel structures, with a significant portion involving bridge-related work, including high-visibility projects with substantial budgets
