Senior Design Manager / Document Controller Fleet Data Centers designs, builds and operates mega‑scale data center campuses. Fleet is well positioned to bring in‑house design, engineering and operational capabilities to collaborate with customers on tailored solutions for campuses of 500MW+. Position Overview As the Senior Design Manager / Document Controller, you will oversee the design coordination, documentation and compliance of all data center design disciplines for high‑performance, scalable and sustainable data centers. The role involves managing design processes, ensuring accurate documentation is delivered, creating new processes and supporting cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable, efficient systems that power large‑scale data center operations across multiple regions. The candidate will be responsible for managing project delivery, design delivery schedule, design meetings and all engineering deliverables. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage design team meetings for data center project delivery. Coordinate design reviews to ensure compliance with specifications, regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Monitor design phase milestones, ensuring timely delivery of design packages and coordination with project schedules. Set up and manage documentation flow throughout the project lifecycle. Review all documentation issued by the design team. Develop and set standards for engineering document control. Develop and refine design standards and guidelines to ensure consistency for all disciplines across all data centers. Maintain document control systems using platforms such as Procore or Aconex, ensuring version control and accessibility for project stakeholders. Verify that all documentation adheres to industry standards. Collaborate with construction and operations teams to collect, review and distribute technical documents. Monitor document submission and approval timelines, providing regular updates to the project team and ensuring milestones are met. Prepare and organize documentation for internal and external audits, ensuring traceability and readiness for compliance reviews. Manage revisions and updates to documents, ensuring all changes are accurately recorded, communicated and incorporated into project workflows. Identify and implement improvements in document control procedures to enhance accuracy, accessibility and efficiency in data center project delivery. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in project management or a related field. 8+ years of experience in document control, with at least 5 years in mission‑critical projects and 3 years in design management. Extensive experience with project management document management software such as Procore, Aconex, AutoDesk Docs, SmartSheets, etc. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate simple technical and complex non‑technical concepts into clear, actionable strategies for both technical and non‑technical audiences. Attention to detail to maintain high quality standards. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and manage key stakeholders across engineering, construction, product and operations teams. Analytical skills, with demonstrated success in analyzing program data, defining KPIs and reporting on success metrics. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Experience working on global data center projects. Familiarity with cloud providers’ data center requirements (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Meta). Experience working on projects in global markets, including knowledge of international land, energy and/or data center regulations and compliance. Technical understanding of data centers. Key Competencies Integrity and Ethical Standards – build trust, ensure fairness and foster long‑term transparent relationships with suppliers. Effective Communication – clearly convey expectations and requirements to suppliers and negotiation parties, while understanding their needs and concerns. Emotional Intelligence – manage emotions and cultural nuances during high‑pressure negotiations. Strategic Thinking – think big picture while managing granular details. Adaptability – manage change and ambiguity in a fast‑paced environment. Leadership – manage cross‑functional teams and external vendors. Experience with complex, multi‑site projects – manage multiple projects under tight deadlines. Excellent communication and presentation skills – interface with senior leadership and diverse stakeholders. Creative problem‑solver – troubleshoot and optimize system performance effectively. Attention to detail – meticulous in planning, designing and reviewing documentation. Working Conditions This role requires occasional travel to data center sites across multiple regions (up to 25% travel). Ability to work in both office environments and active construction sites, adhering to all safety protocols. Expected Salary Range $120,000 – $150,000 + Discretionary Bonus Location Denver, CO, but will also consider candidates in Alexandria, VA; Seattle, WA; or Austin, TX. Remote candidates will also be considered.
