Your Opportunity At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us "challenge the status quo" and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s). The team is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer (IC) to work closely with developers and multiple Agile teams to build, test, secure, and deploy new offerings in our Financial Planning and adjacent platforms. You'll operate across the SDLC—from pipeline design and infrastructure automation to environment reliability and release enablement—helping teams move quickly and safely on GCP and platform services. What You'll Do Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and release workflows that accelerate safe, frequent deployments to GCP and on-prem/hybrid environments. Build and evolve GKE-based application platforms using Helm/kustomize, container registries, and GitOps-friendly practices; drive 12-factor and containerization standards. Automate infrastructure and configuration with Terraform and policy guardrails; codify environment provisioning, secrets, and networking baselines. Implement observability and runbooks with developers (dashboards, alerts, SLO-aligned monitors) to reduce MTTR and prevent repeat issues. Participate in an on-call rotation for DevOps support (release support, pipelines, platform) while partnering with SRE/operations teams on production reliability. (IC role; not a primary SRE position.) Operate within Change Management controls (ticketing, approvals, deployment windows) and contribute to continuous improvement of release governance. Collaborate within Agile ceremonies—stand-ups, reviews, and retros—to plan work, surface risks, and iterate quickly as a self-organizing engineering partner. What You Have 5+ years of DevOps experience in Linux environments, with deep hands-on GCP exposure. Strong PCF (Pivotal Cloud Foundry) experience (preferably production workload support) and understanding of its architecture/deployment strategies Strong knowledge of core GCP services and architectures (e.g., GKE, networking, IAM, storage), with practical production experience; GCP certification preferred. Expertise in Docker and 12-factor design; production experience with GKE, Helm, and kustomize. Proficiency with CI/CD tools—GitHub Actions and Bamboo—including build packaging, test gates, environment promotion, and production support workflows. Hands-on Terraform for infrastructure-as-code and environment automation. Strong understanding of networking (routing, subnets, NAT) as it applies to microservices and hybrid connectivity. Scripting in Bash and Python for build/deploy tooling, environment diagnostics, and automation. Clear documentation, cross-team communication, and problem-solving skills in a fast-moving Agile environment. Collaboration & Meeting Cadence (IC Expectation) Daily: team stand-up; ad-hoc pairing/swarms on build/deploy issues. Weekly: backlog/iteration planning with partner teams; release readiness and change tickets for production moves. Bi-weekly: sprint review & retrospective; focused platform working session to evolve pipelines and shared modules. Monthly/Quarterly: environment health, incident themes, and pipeline KPI reviews with partner teams to drive continuous improvement. The Stack You'll Touch (Representative) Languages/Frameworks: Java, .NET, Python. Cloud/Platform: PCF, GCP, GKE, container registry, artifact management. CI/CD & IaC: GitHub Actions, Bamboo, Terraform, Helm, kustomize. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent experience). "In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities."
