(WAI) is an employee-owned IT consulting firm headquartered in Juneau, Alaska, with an additional office in Anchorage and remote staff across the Contiguous United States. Founded in 1984, WAI has spent over four decades providing software engineering, technology integration, system analysis, project management, quality assurance, and information security services to state and federal agencies and private‑sector clients. As a federal HUBZone‑certified firm, we deliver practical results for our customers through the informed use of information technology and a solid understanding of business needs, culture, and technical environment. We seek people with a combination of programming, consulting, and business experience. About the Role We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Full Stack Developer with deep expertise in enterprise Java and developing cloud‑native enterprise solutions to support our government and private‑sector clients. Depending on the engagement, this role may serve as the technical lead for backend or full‑stack architecture on one of our client engagements, taking ownership of system design and implementation decisions while working closely with end users and other project team members to deliver reliable, maintainable enterprise applications. Depending on the engagement, job duties may include: Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Java‑based backend systems composed of independently‑deployable microservices leveraging reactive design principles. Architect and implement cloud‑native, distributed systems deployed in containerized, Kubernetes‑based environments. Translate system requirements into scalable technical designs, including service architecture, API contracts, and data models. Lead and participate in projects of varying size and complexity, serving as technical lead when needed. Work with clients and other contractors to ensure new development and modifications don’t negatively affect the broader client environment. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers. Contribute across the full stack — including front‑end development in React — when an engagement calls for it. Write technical documentation, requirements, process flows, and system specifications. Competitive compensation package Full‑time opportunity Medical and dental insurance 401k plan Paid holidays, vacation Required Qualifications B.S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field required. 8+ years of enterprise software development experience, including experience leading technical initiatives or mentoring other developers. Excellent working knowledge of enterprise Java or equivalent JVM languages (Scala, Kotlin), Spring, Spring Boot, Java build tools such as Maven and Gradle, and microservices architecture, with Akka experience a strong plus. Demonstrated experience building and deploying cloud‑native, distributed enterprise systems, including containerized microservices (Docker, Kubernetes), Git‑based CI/CD pipelines, and a major cloud platform such as GCP, AWS, or Azure. Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or cloud‑managed databases (e.g., Google Cloud SQL). Experience with message‑based/event‑driven architectures. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technology stacks, languages, and frameworks, along with the underlying business processes they support. Ability to work core Alaska business hours (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Alaska Time). Soft Skills Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, with the initiative and creativity to identify pragmatic, results‑oriented solutions. Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across technical and non‑technical audiences. Preferred Qualifications React and/or Material UI experience for front‑end or full‑stack contributions. GraphQL API development experience, particularly with Spring GraphQL. Experience with reactive or functional programming patterns (e.g., Spring WebFlux, Vavr). Familiarity with event sourcing and CQRS. Experience with schema/version‑control tooling such as Liquibase. Hands‑on experience with cloud platform services particularly with GCP cloud services such as Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, and Cloud SQL. Prior experience as a consultant, particularly on large enterprise software projects. Experience working with State and Federal agencies operating in Alaska. #J-18808-Ljbffr
