Senior Linux Systems & Security Administrator/Engineer
(Multi-Platform Web Hosting & CloudFlare Management)
REMOTE, salary around $110,000 plus company bonus plan, salary is based on experience and skills
We are looking for a Senior Linux Systems & Security Administrator/Engineer to take full ownership of our mission-critical hosting environment and lead initiatives to improve security, scalability, and resilience. This role is ideal for someone with deep Linux expertise and a passion for building fault-tolerant architectures.
Experience with Cloudflare is a plus-but if you're eager to learn, we'll support you.
This outline of responsibilities is to occur in the first 90 days, with more phases to follow. This role could lead to a leadership position and future company partnership opportunities.
We have an immediate need in the first 90 days that you must be able to do to apply for this critical full time position in our organization:
Manage and maintain a production environment consisting of:
- Two Linux web servers (RackSpace) running Apache/PHP-FPM.
- Two Linux database servers (Master/Replica) running MySQL Enterprise 8.x.
Harden configurations for:
- Load balancing (HAProxy/Nginx).
- MySQL and Linux server security.
Deploy and optimize Cloudflare Enterprise features:
- WAF, bot management, rate limiting, Workers, and Zero Trust.
Implement centralized logging and alerting:
- Cloudflare Logpush to ELK/Graylog.
Conduct penetration tests, remediate findings, and document baseline security posture.
Drive major infrastructure initiatives:
- Design and implement a Multi-Data Center Architecture for geographic redundancy.
- Introduce Anycast routing for fault-tolerant web traffic.
- Migrate from Master/Replica to MySQL Group Replication (MGR) with proxy layer (MySQL Router) for seamless failover.
After the 90 days, you will move to SOC2 compliance and reporting and from there working on standardization across our 10 Linux Servers across data centers and cloud providers. This is a full year of implementation to completion and from there you could move to leadership. This is a great opportunity to own this critical part of our technology!
Experience Required:
- Strong Linux systems administration experience in production environments.
- Expertise in LAMP stack management and hardening.
- Proven ability to secure and optimize popular CMS/eCommerce platforms including WordPress, Drupal, Magento, Joomla, and OpenCart.
- Hands-on experience with load balancing (HAProxy/Nginx) and high-availability architectures.
- Familiarity with MySQL Enterprise and clustering technologies.
- Security-focused mindset with experience in penetration testing and remediation.
Technical Skills: Required:
- Linux (CentOS/Ubuntu), Apache, HAProxy/Nginx.
- MySQL Group Replication, MySQL Router.
- Cloudflare Enterprise (WAF, Zero Trust, Workers)-or willingness to learn.
- Networking concepts: Anycast routing, fault-tolerant architectures.
- Centralized logging and monitoring (ELK, Graylog).
- Experience with multi-data center deployments is a huge plus.
