Excel Total Business is seeking an experienced Underwriting Consultant to join our team. As an Underwriting Consultant, you will play a critical role in analyzing and assessing risks associated with insurance applications. In this role, you will collaborate with clients, brokers, and other internal stakeholders to evaluate insurance risks, determine appropriate coverage, and make underwriting decisions to support our clients' needs.


Responsibilities

  • Evaluate insurance applications, policy renewals, and endorsements to determine risk levels and coverage suitability.
  • Analyze applicant's financial status, medical history, and other relevant information to assess risk and determine premium rates.
  • Collaborate with brokers and clients to gather additional information and clarify policy details.
  • Conduct research and utilize underwriting tools and databases to assess risk factors and trends.
  • Make underwriting decisions within defined authority levels, adhering to company guidelines and underwriting principles.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, providing guidance on risk assessment and underwriting criteria.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of underwriting documentation and policy administration tasks.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact underwriting decisions.
  • Participate in underwriting meetings and contribute to the development of underwriting strategies and guidelines.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to underwriting team members, as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in underwriting, preferably in a commercial insurance setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and policy analysis.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate complex information and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients and brokers.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and interpreting insurance applications and policy documents.
  • Proficiency in using underwriting software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good understanding of insurance laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Professional designations such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU) are highly desirable.
