As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering for Responsible AI, you will manage multiple engineers accountable for building scalable, reliable, and high‑impact systems that power Indeed’s products and services. You will work directly with engineering leads across Indeed to build infrastructure supporting Indeed's Responsible AI goals, including tools for verifying safe AI output, preventing sensitive data leakage, stress‑testing AI systems for harmful content, and cataloging model metadata for use throughout the company.
In this role, you will set technical direction, drive execution of large‑scale initiatives, and ensure your teams deliver high‑quality solutions that improve experiences for job seekers and employers. You will work closely with engineering, product, and data partners to align priorities, solve complex technical challenges, and deliver meaningful outcomes for the business. You will collaborate with scientists and user researchers on the RAI team to develop internal and externally‑facing products at the cutting edge of AI safety and observability. You will interface with partner teams to provide tools ensuring that RAI standards are met in all external‑facing products, and you will design and implement novel tools and techniques for evaluating and guard‑railing AI systems.
You will also play a key role in developing engineering talent, fostering an innovative technical culture, and shaping long‑term technical strategy while ensuring operational excellence across the systems your team owns.
Responsibilities
Partner with product, engineering, and other cross‑functional teams to translate business goals into technical solutions, particularly with our central product offerings of AI guardrails, AI red‑teaming, model metadata cataloging, demographic data collection, and compliance verification tooling.
Support a suite of self‑service tooling for internal developer use with high expectations for monitoring, alerting and compliance logging while maintaining high SLOs for latency and performance.
Collaborate with data scientists and machine learning engineers to turn proofs of concept into engineering infrastructure.
Drive execution of large initiatives across teams, ensuring high quality, reliability, and timely delivery.
Establish and maintain best‑in‑class engineering practices, including code quality, system design, testing, and operational excellence.
Plan and oversee the scaling of systems to provide coverage for millions of jobseekers and employers.
Manage and grow a team, supporting high performance, innovation, and a welcoming, thriving workplace. Mentor junior and senior engineers to develop the next generation of technical leaders.
Skills/Competencies
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, and a minimum of 12 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience; or a PhD with a minimum of 5 years experience.
Significant success as a Software Engineer working on challenging problems across service‑oriented architectures, databases, and APIs.
Expertise in programming best practices, with specific experience in Python.
Familiarity with modern ML and LLM ecosystems, including prompt tuning, versioning, and agentic coding approaches.
Operational knowledge of Datadog or similar data visibility and monitoring tools, with the ability to guide work through frameworks and code review.
Proven ability to coach and develop talent, helping team members improve their skills and grow their careers.
Dedicated sense of ownership as a technical and product leader, with excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and business audiences.
Salary Range Transparency
Tier 1 – United States of America 166,000 – 248,000 USD per year
Tier 2 – United States of America 183,000 – 275,000 USD per year
Tier 3 – United States of America 202,000 – 304,000 USD per year
Tier 4 – N/A
Tier 5 – United States of America 230,000 – 346,000 USD per year
