Senior Mechanical Design EngineerPermanentChatham, Kent (Flexible Hybrid Working)A leading contractor within the UK water sector is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team on a permanent basis. This organisation delivers major water and wastewater infrastructure projects and has a strong pipeline of secured work across current and upcoming AMP programmes.This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering essential infrastructure that improves water quality, enhances environmental sustainability, and supports communities across the region.The RoleThe Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead mechanical design activities across a portfolio of water and infrastructure projects. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering technically robust, cost-effective, and buildable design solutions from concept through to commissioning.The role is based in Chatham, Kent, with flexible hybrid working available.Key ResponsibilitiesLeading mechanical design packages on water and wastewater projectsProducing and reviewing design calculations, specifications, schedules, and technical documentationCoordinating with civil, electrical, and process engineering teamsSupporting project delivery teams to ensure designs are practical and aligned with construction requirementsEngaging with clients, suppliers, and key stakeholdersProviding technical oversight and mentoring junior engineersEnsuring compliance with industry standards, health & safety legislation, and client specificationsCandidate RequirementsProven mechanical design experience within the water sector or wider infrastructure projectsStrong knowledge of pumping systems, pipework, treatment works, or related mechanical installationsBackground working for a contractor or consultancy environmentAbility to manage and deliver design packages independentlyDegree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related disciplineChartered status (or working towards) desirableWhat’s on OfferPermanent role with a large, established contractorFlexible hybrid working arrangementCompetitive salary and comprehensive benefits packageLong-term project pipeline within AMP frameworksClear career progression opportunities within a growing engineering functionFor further information or to express interest, please apply or get in touch to arrange a confidential discussion.
