Under the direction of the Mechanical Engineering Manager, this position designs, engineers, and develops industrial automation, robotic, and electromechanical systems. Responsibilities include concept development, mechanical design, and integration of solutions supporting Mitsubishi Electric’s Industry Solutions and Sales & Marketing objectives. Projects encompass both standard Mitsubishi Electric product platforms and custom, customer‑engineered solutions across industries such as packaging, material handling, life sciences, semiconductor, and consumer electronics.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
Ability to design innovative mechanical solutions and translate them into production‑ready designs using SolidWorks parametric modeling, including robotic end‑of‑arm tooling (grippers, vacuum, welding, milling, and sensing), robotic frames and cells, servo‑driven mechanisms (linear actuators and positioning systems), and custom fixtures, jigs, alignment, and homing devices.
Define timeline and coordinating resources when required.
Work within SolidWorks to develop products, BOM’s and configurations.
Develop industrial automation solutions to align with Mitsubishi Electric’s growth strategy and initiatives.
Develop new product proposals for key or high-level opportunities.
Present new development ideas to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
Support sourcing and specification of components including 3rd party purchased items, sheet metal, control, and power distribution.
Interface with Mitsubishi Electric’s production and supply chain departments, ensuring timelines are met.
Work with Mitsubishi Electric’s quality control to establish standards and alignment for electromechanical solutions.
Review and document MEUS-IAD engineering mechanical standards and practices, make recommendations for alignment with North American best practices and standards.
Perform other job functions and duties as assigned.
Essential Education, Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
5+ years of experience in mechanical design using 3D CAD including:
Generating manufacturing drawings/assemblies with appropriate tolerances
Supporting work with calculations as required (i.e. stress analysis, free body diagrams, torque requirements, etc.)
Working closely with machine shops and assembly
Proficient with Solid Works Mechanical (or equivalent software) including configurations, surfaces, advanced part/assembly, and BOM’s
Experience using/specifying compressed air systems (actuators, valves, fittings, etc.)
Ability to solve basic to complex mechanical tasks mostly independently
Knowledge of assembly techniques and best practices (welding, bolted assemblies, torque values, etc.)
Multitasking skills for new products development and scope of work.
Project management skills and ability to multitask projects
Experience compiling cost estimates based on materials, components, and estimated hours
Clear understanding of the system cost ramifications of design trade-offs, component selection, manufacturing techniques, design techniques, and test and qualification procedures.
Ability to work with a team of engineers and make technical decisions
Excellent written & verbal communications skills
Proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point

Experience with plastic fabrication techniques
Experience with FEA, MathCad, or similar software

The target pay range for this position is $120,000 – 135,000 annually. The listed salary range is approximate and reflects the anticipated compensation for this position as determined by salary analysis; both internal and external to MEAU. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, skills and experience. Compensation may also vary due to market factors. MEAU retains the right to adjust compensation based on business needs.
