Senior Pastor Job Announcement

Woods Memorial Baptist Church in College Park, Georgia is prayerfully seeking a Senior Pastor who is called by God and equipped to effectively teach and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, according to the word of God. The Pastor must engage in pastoral care (in the form of emotional, social and spiritual support), and provide supervisory and administrative leadership.

Woods Memorial was organized in 1992 and has maintained a strong foundation in the community over the past 30 years. Our church motto is Where Jesus Is The Focus, and this is represented in our core Christian beliefs of loving God first, loving thy neighbor, and working together as one body in Christ.

The incoming pastor should possess the following personal qualities and characteristics: a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; a prayer warrior; a dynamic, engaging personality that allows the pastor to connect with the congregation; leadership experience; compassion for others; humility; honesty; integrity; impartiality; flexibility; approachability; punctuality; and professionalism.

The incoming pastor of Woods Memorial Baptist Church must be a spirit filled, licensed, and ordained minister who loves the Lord and believes in the power of prayer. The pastor should possess a combination of formal education and ministerial experience, (minimum of 5 years preaching experience), and a firm belief that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. The candidate must follow the basic doctrine of the Baptist Church and be open to working with the National Baptist Convention leadership in matters of mutual interest and concerns of the congregation.

The candidate must have a forward-thinking vision for the church, excellent verbal and written communication skills, mentoring skills, be a problem solver and promote teamwork and teambuilding. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to counsel as well as unify the church where needed. In addition, familiarity with technology and social media is welcomed.

Pastoral Job Description

General Description of Responsibilities

The Senior Pastor is the spiritual leader of the church. The Pastor is responsible to the Lord and the church to primarily proclaim the gospel and teach the Bible. The Pastor is to be engaged in pastoral care and provide supervisory and administrative leadership.

Pastoral Requirements and Responsibilities (in no particular order):

  • Plan and conduct worship services: prepare and deliver sermons and lead observances of the church by-laws.
  • Lead the church in conducting effective community outreach programs.
  • Lead and/or delegate programs for visiting sick and homebound members.
  • Conduct counseling sessions.
  • Conduct funerals.
  • Perform wedding ceremonies.
  • Lead the church in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating all church programs and ministries in conjunction with Deacon and Trustee Boards.
  • Form an alliance with the National Baptist Convention leadership in matters of mutual interest and concerns.
  • Represent the church in civic matters.
  • Act as moderator of church business meetings (unless another leader is appointed moderator, i.e. Deacon and/or Trustee Board member).
  • Work with Deacons, Board of Trustees, church officers, and committees/auxiliaries as they perform their assigned responsibilities.
  • Play an active role in engaging and supporting the youth of the church.
  • Schedule availability during church office hours
  • Serve as administrator of the paid church staff; supervise the work of the ministry staff

Critical qualifications

  • Must be licensed and ordained
  • Education: A minimum of 5 years of preaching experience in the ministry

Preferred qualifications-

  • Seminary education
  • Associate degree (minimum)

Salary Range

$60,000/year - $105,000/year (complete compensation package will be negotiated)

Other Notes:

  • Employment is subject to a background check/credit check
  • Employment is subject to a 6-month probationary period (to be discussed in further detail)
