Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager II, the Senior Personnel Specialist (Sr. PS) is responsible to perform standard personnel tasks as well the most difficult and complex personnel assignments for the Administrative and Business Services Unit. The Sr. PS serves as a subject matter expert (SME) within Human Resources (HR) for the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA). The Sr. PS will provide guidance and technical expertise regarding all areas of state payroll and benefit functions and responsibilities including but not limited to employee position movements, and the administration of salary and payroll, disability leave, and state benefits. As such, the Sr. PS will maintain a diverse employee roster containing employees of all position rankings and status. The incumbent is expected to establish and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external customers by consistently exercising and demonstrating a high degree of tact, confidentiality, initiative, responsibility, and independence while performing their duties with a strong commitment to customer service.

This position is being filled as either a Senior Personnel Specialist or a Personnel Specialist. For information regarding the Personnel Specialist advertisement, please see JC-421094.

After an initial in-office training period of two (2) months, this position may allow for telework opportunities as remote centered.

Per CalHR, the Senior Personnel Specialist position is eligible for an annual payment up to $4,800, payable upon meeting the designated criteria as stated in Pay Differential 240.

Working Conditions

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid telework option, in accordance with CAL FIREs telework policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
  • In addition, this classification is eligible for an annual recruitment and retention bonus of $2400 after completion of 12 months in the classification, $3,000 after completion of 24 months in the classification, $3,600 after completion of 36 months in the classification, and $4,800 after completion of 48 months in the classification.

Department Information

The California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) is a state cabinet-level agency in the government of California.
