Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Safety & Risk Advisor to support post-commissioning and start-up operations at an active plant site. This is a surge-capacity role requiring a seasoned technical professional who can independently lead structured risk assessments and scenario-based safety evaluations in a live operating environment.
This role is focused on process risk facilitation and scenario management, not regulatory program development. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in HAZOP, bowtie analysis, and scenario-based methodologies and has personally led and facilitated risk assessments, not merely participated in them.
This individual must be comfortable operating in the field, guiding cross-functional technical teams, and presenting risk mitigation recommendations clearly and confidently.
What This Role Is
Lead facilitator of risk assessments and HAZOP studies
Subject matter expert in scenario-based process safety analysis
Technical advisor during start-up and early operating phases
Independent operator capable of running sessions without supervision
Strong communicator able to present findings and recommendations
What This Role Is Not
Not responsible for building or implementing OSHA PSM programs
Not a regulatory compliance management role
Not focused on setting up management systems
Not a passive participant in risk reviews
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate structured risk assessments using established methodologies
Lead HAZOP sessions and scenario-based risk reviews
Conduct bowtie analysis and event tree evaluations
Guide cross-disciplinary teams through structured risk identification processes
Develop and present clear, actionable risk mitigation recommendations
Support safe transition from commissioning into start-up and steady-state operations
Deliver targeted process safety training where required
Required Qualifications
10+ years of relevant industry experience preferred
Engineering degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical, or related field strongly preferred
Deep knowledge of petrochemical industry operations and regulatory environment
Proven experience leading and facilitating HAZOP and structured risk assessments
Strong technical understanding of scenario management and bowtie analysis
Experience working in live operating plant environments
Ability to work independently and "hit the ground running"
Preferred Experience
Experience using consequence modeling tools such as Phast
Familiarity with ExxonMobil-style risk methodologies
Experience supporting start-up or post-commissioning activities
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate exceeds 10 years of experience and demonstrates a track record of independently leading complex risk assessments in petrochemical or energy environments. They are technically strong, field-oriented, and confident facilitating high-level discussions with engineering and operations teams.
