Impact As a Senior Product Designer, Design Systems at Shipt, you will help shape and evolve the design foundations that power experiences across our entire product ecosystem. Reporting to the Director of Design Systems, you will lead the design of scalable components, interaction patterns, design foundations, and documentation that enable product teams to deliver consistent, accessible, and high-quality experiences. This role requires a systems mindset, exceptional design craft, and the ability to influence across multiple teams. You will partner closely with Product Design, Engineering, Accessibility, Research, and Product leaders to solve complex design challenges at scale while continuously improving how designers and engineers build products together. You will also play a key role in exploring and adopting emerging AI‑powered tools and workflows that improve design quality, increase efficiency, and enable next‑generation design system capabilities. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and evolution of reusable components, patterns, design foundations, and interaction standards that scale across multiple products and platforms. Balance consistency with flexibility to enable product innovation while maintaining a cohesive user experience. Solve complex, ambiguous design problems by identifying patterns across products and translating them into scalable system solutions. Develop thoughtful component behaviors, APIs, interaction models, accessibility requirements, and implementation guidance. Partner closely with Product Designers, Design System Engineers, Front‑End Engineers, Product Managers, and Accessibility experts to ensure component quality, adoption, and seamless implementation across the organization. Actively experiment with emerging AI‑powered design tools and workflows to improve component creation, documentation, governance, quality assurance, and team productivity. Identify opportunities where AI can responsibly accelerate design workflows while maintaining high standards of quality, accessibility, and usability. Help establish contribution models, governance processes, documentation standards, and review practices that ensure the long‑term health and scalability of the Design System. Measure adoption and continuously improve the system based on user feedback and organizational needs. Build trusted relationships across Design, Product, and Engineering organizations. Advocate for scalable design solutions and influence product teams to leverage the Design System while balancing business needs and user outcomes. Share best practices and foster a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and design excellence. Core Design Competencies Systems Thinking: Recognizes patterns across products and translates them into scalable, reusable design solutions that improve consistency and efficiency. Design Process: Leverages research, experimentation, accessibility, and iterative design methods to create high‑quality components and system patterns that solve broad organizational needs. Design Judgment: Makes thoughtful trade‑offs between consistency, flexibility, usability, technical feasibility, and business priorities while maintaining a high bar for craft. AI Curiosity & Innovation: Continuously explores emerging AI technologies and design workflows, thoughtfully integrating new capabilities that improve designer productivity, system quality, and organizational effectiveness. Business Acumen: Understands how Design Systems drive business value by improving product quality, accelerating delivery, reducing design and engineering effort, and enabling scalable growth. Strong understanding of modern front‑end development principles, component libraries, design tokens, responsive design, and developer handoff processes. Experience partnering closely with engineering teams throughout implementation. Advanced proficiency in Figma (Variables, Component Properties, Auto Layout, Libraries, Dev Mode) is required. 4+ years of Product Design experience with demonstrated expertise in Design Systems, platform design, or highly scalable product experiences.
