Mayzon is seeking a Plastic Product Development Engineer to play an important role in helping to assure the smooth and successful management of innovative products into volume manufacturing.
About the Role
In this role you will be an integral part of the product design, material selection, mold / tool design, and supplier execution process. Provide valuable input to the design team on manufacturing methods and in helping arrive at a manufacturable design specific to plastic injection molding.
Responsibilities
- Be an integral part of the Product Engineering team, engineer product, provides appropriate design for manufacturing principles, manufacturing feasibility, and input on applicable plastics manufacturing methods.
- Explore/introduce advanced plastic molding technologies in support of Mayzon product development.
- Review/assess/approve mold performance and mold flow (i.e. part fill, warp, pressure, balance) analysis.
- Liaison between tool shop, supplier, Product Development and Manufacturing.
- Developing cost for plastic and materials/products and labor to ensure profitability of the products to interface with design team to minimize manufacturing cost.
- Supporting all aspects of the manufacturing environment, as well as investigating and providing feedback on all quality related questions.
- Provide leadership internally and at suppliers during tool and process development to quickly resolve all technical issues.
- Lead & work with global plastic injection molders and tooling suppliers to develop robust production molds at competitive costs.
- Function as technical liaison with the supplier and product development on tooling and manufacturing process development, assuring the capability of the process to produce parts to specification of projects.
- Help drive Design Transfer activities as project moves from development to volume production.
- Work with Supply Chain managers to identify capacity opportunities and to evaluate technical and manufacturing capabilities that support growth plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Plastics, Mechanical or Manufacturing) required.
Required Skills
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in plastic injection molded part development and design.
- Strong understanding of plastic materials.
- Knowledge of wood processing (materials and equipment) is a plus.
- Experience working with suppliers (mold builders, material suppliers, equipment suppliers) a plus.
- Experience in a fast-paced, sales driven, manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects while maintaining customer deadlines.
- Strong computer skills required, specifically SolidWorks and Microsoft Office.
- Hands-on with prototype building and laboratory testing.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with suppliers (mold builders, material suppliers, equipment suppliers) a plus.
