Summary:
We're seeking a forward-thinking, proactive Safety Specialist to lead the charge in transforming and enhancing our safety culture. In this role, you'll be a key player in designing and implementing safety initiatives that not only meet but exceed OSHA 1926 and 1910 standards, along with other federal, state, and local regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure a secure, compliant, and future-focused work environment that supports FMCC's vision of sustainable growth and operational excellence,
- Lead regular job site audits to guarantee FMCC's unwavering commitment to OSHA standards and our own rigorous safety protocols,
- Identify potential risks and develop actionable solutions to elevate workplace safety and compliance across all divisions,
- Spearhead the rollout of cutting-edge safety programs, policies, and procedures that align with FMCC's mission to lead in safety innovation,
- Ensure adherence to specialized safety protocols for heavy equipment, construction sites, and public road operations,
- Coordinate and deliver impactful training sessions to build safety awareness, focusing on hazard analysis, PPE requirements, and FMCC's pioneering safety standards,
- Guide new employees through a comprehensive safety orientation, setting the foundation for a culture of vigilance and compliance,
- Respond swiftly to incidents, conducting meticulous investigations to identify root causes and provide forward-looking solutions,
- Compile detailed reports and track corrective actions, aligning with FMCC's robust incident handling policy to prevent recurrence,
- Collaborate on collecting safety performance metrics to drive strategic improvements,
- Support monthly safety performance reporting, offering insights that guide executive leadership in decision-making and trend analysis,
- Partner with division heads, superintendents, and the Safety Department to resolve site-specific safety challenges and share best practices,
- Work with HR to ensure regulatory compliance and the legal robustness of all safety policies, fostering a culture of continuous improvement,
- Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency response protocols to ensure FMCC's readiness for any scenario, from spills to severe weather conditions,
- Act as a first point of contact during emergencies, coordinating effective responses with safety teams and external agencies,
- May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
- Additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 3-5 years in a safety-focused role within the construction industry, with expert knowledge of OSHA 1926 and 1910 standards,
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification in Construction Safety is essential,
- Additional safety certifications (e.g., CHST) are preferred,
- Proven skills in risk assessment, job hazard analysis, and developing responsive corrective actions,
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to engage effectively with team members at all organizational levels,
- Advanced understanding of construction-specific safety challenges, including heavy equipment, confined spaces, fall protection, shoring and shielding, and roadway operations,
- COVID-19 vaccination is highly recommended,
- Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug & alcohol screening.
Working Conditions:
- This job may require you to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.
- This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist. In addition, you must have the ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job. This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces.
