Senior Software Development Engineer Test (SDET) | Location: Chicago, IL or Dallas, TX | Contract | Hourly Pay Range $45-$55 We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to support security validation efforts within a dynamic IT environment. This role focuses on developing and maintaining automated testing pipelines that validate security vulnerabilities and ensure remediation before deployment into production. The position requires close collaboration with Security, DevOps, and Governance teams to uphold the quality and reliability of security processes. Key Responsibilities Design and maintain automated regression test suites to validate security patches, including CVEs across OS, browser, and middleware layers. Develop security-focused test cases covering OWASP Top 10 categories, authentication bypass, privilege escalation, and injection attack vectors. Integrate AI-assisted test generation tools to accelerate vulnerability fix validation and reduce manual testing efforts. Leverage Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber BDD, and TestNG/JUnit to create functional regression suites that verify security fixes do not cause regressions. Author Gherkin feature files to document security acceptance criteria for audit and compliance purposes. Integrate security regression suites into Jenkins pipelines, ensuring automated vulnerability validation prior to environment promotion. Manage test environment deployments using Harness and Rancher, ensuring reproducible security testing contexts across multiple environments. Maintain YAML and Groovy pipeline configurations to enforce security test gates as part of release cycles. Tag automated tests appropriately and ensure execution across all target environments to meet compliance requirements. Track vulnerability fix validation results in SpiraTest and Jira, maintaining traceability from CVE identification through testing and closure. Generate security test metrics and reports via SpiraTest and Splunk to confirm vulnerabilities are verified before release. Support governance reporting by providing daily status updates on security defect resolution. Collaborate with security teams and Mythos Preview partners to understand new vulnerabilities and translate them into testable acceptance criteria. Participate in Agile ceremonies and conduct testability reviews during design and code review phases with a focus on security. Required Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Software Development Engineer in Test or similar role. Hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber BDD, TestNG/JUnit, and Rest Assured. Working knowledge of security testing concepts, including OWASP Top 10, CVE workflows, and common vulnerability classes. Experience integrating automated test suites into Jenkins CI/CD pipelines with Git/GitHub. Proficiency in Java, Gherkin, YAML, and JSON within testing frameworks. Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, specifically Claude Code. Solid understanding of Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC), Agile methodologies, and defect management workflows. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field. Preferred Qualifications Experience in financial services, regulated industries, or critical infrastructure security. Exposure to static analysis tools (SonarQube, Checkmarx) or DAST tools. Familiarity with Docker and containerized test environments. Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or CEH. Knowledge of cloud environments like AWS or Azure.
