Senior Software Engineer – Mission Systems Software Developer Senior Software Engineer Mission Systems Software Developer (Level 5) to join Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) in Daytona Beach, Florida. This role is responsible for developing software and software tests throughout all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements, architecture, implementation, and verification. The engineer will work within a Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) DevSecOps environment, using agile methodology to focus on code quality, security, and automation. Responsibilities Develop and participate in the use case development of software requirements. Lead activities to develop, document, and maintain software architecture, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for mission systems software. Lead development of code and integration of complex mission systems software components into a fully functional software system. Provide technical leadership for software projects and guide less experienced software engineers. Act as an independent observer for Program Managers and the customer, highlighting potential best practices and areas for improvement. Actively participate in program activities from initial proposal and planning to delivery. Support the identification and analysis of program/project software quality metrics to improve software quality and manage risk. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. Ability to acquire and maintain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (post‑start). Ten years of full life cycle software development, modeling, simulation, testing, and/or analysis experience using C, C++, C#, Python, Java, Ada, and/or Linux. Ten years of experience with version control systems such as Git, ClearCase, or Subversion. Preferred Qualifications Fourteen or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Strong decision‑making skills and ability to work independently while leading smaller teams. Team leadership experience in a collaborative environment using agile principles and structured development processes, including code reviews and automated DevOps processes/tools. Experience using team collaboration tools including Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence. Experience with C, C++, Java, Ada, and/or Python in software development. Experience working on an Agile team in a collaborative environment. Pay & Benefits Competitive base pay with variable compensation opportunities. Eligible employees can enroll in a variety of benefit programs, including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, and paid or unpaid leave programs. Pay is based on candidate experience, qualifications, market and business considerations. Pay range: $184,450 – $249,550. Other Information Travel may be required up to 10% of the time. The position requires U.S. citizenship for a U.S. Secret Security Clearance. No visa sponsorship is offered. The role is not contingent upon program award and is a Shift1 position.
