Job Summary:

Bayhealth is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for preparing tax filings and financial statements for affiliated entities, supervising corporate accounting staff, and ensuring compliance with all applicable accounting principles and tax regulations. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in tax preparation, financial reporting, and budgeting, ideally within a healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and file all tax returns (Forms 990 & 1120) by established deadlines, in collaboration with the Controller/CFO.

  • Record and review journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.

  • Prepare monthly financial statements for affiliated entities.

  • Develop annual budgets for related corporations at least two months before year-end and finalize before Board meetings.

  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of all benefit plan returns (Forms 5500), in accordance with auditor schedules.

  • Supervise the Related Corporations Specialist, including performance evaluations and quality review of completed work.

  • Research and document GAAP procedures for Bayhealth entities as requested.

  • Reconcile assigned accounts monthly and post correcting entries as needed.

  • Stay current with tax law changes, FASB updates, and AICPA guidance, particularly for non-profit and healthcare sectors.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in accounting, with experience preparing tax returns and financial statements, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Preferred:

  • Education: Master's degree in a related field

  • Credential: CPA (Certified Public Accountant)

  • Experience: 5+ years of general accounting experience. Prior work in hospital or healthcare accounting, with both for-profit and not-for-profit tax preparation.
