SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER, CALTRANS Apply
Under the direction of the Office Chief of Office of Ecosystem Delivery, a Supervising Transportation Electrical Engineer (Supervisor), the incumbent, a Senior Transportation Engineer (Specialist), serves as the Project Acceleration Manager of the Office of Ecosystem Delivery Branch. The incumbent is responsible for strategically planning, developing, and piloting innovative transportation technology special projects integral to advancing the Department's Transportation Management and System Operations (TSMO) strategies. The incumbent also serves as the point of contact for the Division of Traffic Operations on projects and initiatives of national or statewide significance (including but not limited to the Los Angeles 2028 Game Route Network); coordinates statewide grant proposals development efforts; and champions other emerging concepts improving both safety and mobility of our transportation system.
The incumbent implements a centralized pilot process that provides a standardized method for acquiring, adopting, and mainstreaming new safety and mobility solutions in alignment with the Department's strategic goals. Reviews, consults, and contributes to implement Transportation Management Systems (TMS) technologies by District engineers, the Division of Research, Innovation and System Information (DRISI), consultants, academia, and broader transportation industry. Works with Districts and regional transportation partners to plan and coordinate evaluation of these new pilots. Actively pursues external grants and funding sources for implementing pilots that facilitate the implementation of transformational solutions statewide. Helps accelerate adoption and scaling of new transportation solutions and technologies by the Department.

Working Conditions
Position located in Sacramento, Sacramento County.
This position's headquartered location is Sacramento, CA. While at the base of operation, the incumbent works in a climate-controlled office under natural and artificial lighting. Due to periodic issues with heating and air conditioning, building temperatures may fluctuate. Multi-floor buildings are equipped with elevators and stairs. The incumbent may be required to travel periodically to other office buildings (federal and state offices, District offices, local agencies, etc.) and indoor/outdoor field locations. While at field locations, the incumbent may be exposed to uneven surfaces, noise, and varying climate conditions. The incumbent may be required to travel within the state and may be required to travel out of- state for business operations. Possession of a valid driver's license is required to operate a State owned, leased, and/or personal vehicle. The environment is fast-paced, demanding, and busy; and requires considerable flexibility in managing time, priorities and assignments. Vacations may be restricted during peak times.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
