KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate receipt, storage, distribution, and shipping of all lumber, other raw materials, and finished goods. Responsible for coordinating inbound and outbound shipments, including scheduling company-owned and outside freight carriers to meet on-time-delivery expectations. Support Plant Manager in effectively managing inventory levels and material flows to support production requirements and capacity restraints. Assists Plant Manager with inventory control and counts.
Requirements
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Coordinate all inbound receiving and outbound shipping activities.
- Analyze shipping costs and secure freight carriers within specified cost and on-time-delivery standards, seeking variance approval to meet customer expectations if needed.
- Accurately account for all lumber, other raw materials, and finished goods, ensuring accuracy meets threshold levels.
- Supply Plant Manager with accurate information related to inbound material and outbound finished goods shipments, and inventory levels.
- Ensure required materials are available and in acceptable condition.
- Plan and coordinate department’s activities, working directly with the production team to meet or exceed customer satisfaction and plant standards of 95% on time delivery.
- Operate technical equipment, including a forklift, optimizing loading and unloading for efficient logistics.
- Provide a safe and productive work environment, including housekeeping.
- Help coordinate monthly physical inventories and cycle counts.
- Continually assess department activities and provide recommendations for process improvement.
- Must be self-motivated, able to work alone as well as on a team.
- Understand the importance of “do what you say.”
- May be required to be on call for evenings and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- At least 3 years general office, management in shipping/receiving and experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Forklift experience required, experience moving lumber preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with ability to learn company software programs.
- Lumber experience preferred but not required.
- Able to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Able to interpret an assorted number of tasks or instructions.
- Able to communicate ideas clearly and concise, listen effectively, demonstrate understanding, and clarify meaning for others.
- Able to analyze, define, diagnose, and resolve problems based on sound logic and rationale.
