The Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture is seeking energetic and enthusiastic individuals who enjoy the sport of skateboarding or in-line skating and like working with young people to serve as Skate Park Managers for the City's 2024 Skate Park season (March - October).

As a Skate Park Manager, you will open and close the Park each day, oversee daily operations, handle cash management, manage the waiver database, supervise skate park attendants, and ensure that customers have a safe, positive, and enjoyable experience at the Skate Park. Work is primarily outside in seasonal temperatures and conditions. Working at the Skate Park offers a team-oriented setting, leadership opportunities, and an overall high quality work experience!

Hours per week vary based on operational needs, but will generally be approximately 5 to 20 hours per week, March through October. Daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday work is required. Successful candidates must attend all required staff training sessions prior to the beginning of the Skate Park season. Starting hourly wage is within the range and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.
What you'll do with us:
  • Ensure safety and security of the facility before, during, and after operation hours.
  • Maintain cash management systems to insure accountability and controls.
  • Prepare daily cash balance sheets.
  • Supervise staff on site and program participants.
  • Provide a thorough level of communication and a positive, fun, and safe environment for patrons and facility staff.
  • Manage rental functions and reservations; plan, create, and carry out activities.
  • Clean, sweep, and collect/dispose of trash throughout the shift and after closing.
  • Greet visitors and answer the telephone to provide appropriate services, assistance, and general information.
  • Arrange supplies and equipment and ensure everything is functioning properly.
  • Respond to emergencies and administer first aid if needed.

What you'll need to be considered:
  • Be at least 18 years of age and/or a high school graduate (or equivalent).
  • Be responsible, dependable, punctual, and adaptable and able to serve as a role model for responsible behavior.
  • Previous paid experience working with the public.
  • Previous experience working with youth and supervising employees (preferred).
  • Previous cash management experience (preferred).
  • Ability to skateboard or in-line skate (preferred).
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification required (can be obtained through the City upon hire).
  • Be able to respond to emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Be able to speak clearly and understand, carry out, and provide written and oral directions.
  • Be able to work on your own and as part of the team.
  • Be able to perform moderate manual work and lift/carry materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
