Position Title: Social Media Manager

Department: Marketing and Communications

Appointment: Full-Time; 40 hours per week/12 months

Status: Exempt

Summary:

The Social Media Manager is responsible for university-wide coordination of the institutions presence on social media platforms. Candidates must be creative, efficient, analytical, good communicators, possess excellent writing skills, have the ability to work well on a team and independently, able to supervise student workers, and effectively multitask as they simultaneously manage multiple projects. A strong sense of institutional branding is also necessary to communicate a consistent message in all social media activity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance the universitys main social media accounts including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Collaborate with other members of the content team to create and execute a strategy for the universitys main and departmental accounts.
  • Monitor mentions of TLU and associated terms on social media and respond as appropriate.
  • Consult with marketing colleagues and other campus partners on department-specific social media campaigns that include organic social media posts and paid digital advertising.
  • Track, analyze, and report on metrics from social media engagement and digital advertising campaigns. Define KPIs for social media campaigns.
  • Organize and lead group of social media practitioners throughout the institution to enhance Texas Lutheran Universitys overall social media presence and enforce the universitys social media guidelines.
  • Monitor social media activity trends for peer and aspirant institutions.
  • Engage with audiences and followers.
  • Communicate effectively to all stakeholders including senior leadership and content developers.
  • Analyze current trends and emerging technology in social media and make appropriate recommendations on how to integrate selected improvements into the universitys social media efforts.
  • Work with the VP Marketing to develop a social media Policy for Texas Lutheran University.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A bachelors degree in marketing or related field, such as public relations, English, or business or four years of related professional experience is required

Work experience and portfolio in social media marketing; higher education social media experience strongly preferred

Proficiency with MS Office applications and Adobe Create Cloud applications is also required.

Experience with Hootsuite Enterprise, Sprout Social, or similar application; Facebook (Meta) advertising, and Google AdWords is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of best practices for social media platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.

Excellent copywriting, content creation, and communication, both verbal and written, skills

Solid knowledge of SEO, keyword research, and Google Analytics

Ability to deliver creative and thoughtful content and campaigns

Strong time management and prioritization skills

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and varied and diverse array of contacts

Work is performed in a normal office environment with little exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust. Working conditions are moderately quiet

There may be occasional travel and weekend work required

This position is a full-time on-campus position. There may be flexibility for a hybrid option
