JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our client, a prestigious commercial law firm, is seeking a talented and motivated Tax Associate to join their team. The successful candidate will work on a variety of tax matters for corporate clients, providing valuable support to senior attorneys and contributing to the firm's tax practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research on complex tax issues and prepare comprehensive memoranda
  • Assist in drafting tax opinions, legal documents, and client correspondence
  • Support senior attorneys in tax planning and structuring for corporate transactions
  • Help prepare tax-related documents for mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations
  • Analyze and interpret tax laws, regulations, and rulings
  • Assist in representing clients in tax controversies and disputes with tax authorities
  • Contribute to the preparation of client presentations and proposals
  • Stay current with changes in tax legislation and case law
  • Participate in client meetings and conference calls as needed
  • Assist in developing and maintaining client relationships

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
  • Previous experience in tax preparation and compliance preferred.
  • Proficient in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • CPA certification or LLB in Taxation is a plus.
  • 1-3 years of experience in tax law, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with corporate tax, partnership tax, and international tax issues
  • Familiarity with tax software and legal research tools
  • Knowledge of financial statements and accounting principles
  • Experience in the financial services sector a plus
