Software Development Analyst - G126 Information Technology

Overview This position designs, develops, and maintains intranet, website, and web-based applications and ensures software solutions are implemented efficiently and meet user needs by providing exceptional application technical support, researching issues, and problem-solving. Responsibilities Develop an in-depth knowledge of the company’s application portfolio, development tools, and development procedures. Maintain existing applications, including creating reports, making system modifications, and troubleshooting problems. Consult with users to evaluate new or modified applications to determine feasibility, cost, time required, compatibility with current systems and processes, and system capabilities. Assist other developers and programmers with application design and troubleshooting. Review manuals, periodicals, technical reports, and other resources to learn ways to develop applications that meet user needs and streamline government processes. Train users to use new applications; provide technical assistance for questions or problems. Produce technical documentation that accurately depicts the software design and code base to support QA testing and production activities. Research resources and methods to stay current on new and emerging technologies as well as district/state/federal rules, regulations, and policies relevant to architecting, delivering and maintaining a reliable technology infrastructure. Perform adequate unit testing of own and other developers’ work. Provide updates to leadership on work in progress, work completed, and work planned, and any issues potentially impacting on-time completion or quality. May be required to participate in after-hours on-call rotation. Serve as a member of cross-unit project teams to implement city and departmental initiatives. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications Knowledge of GIS technology and its applications. Knowledge of computer trends and new technology. Knowledge of database platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, or Microsoft SharePoint. Knowledge of personal computer file systems and typing skills. Knowledge across several browsers including Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up assignments with minimal direction. Skill using Microsoft Office. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication. Education and Certifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field is required. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. For Website Development: Obtain Microsoft Technical Associate (MTA) Developer Track certification (or replacement cert.) within 36 months of hire, obtain Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD): SharePoint Applications (or replacement web development cert. path) within 60 months of hire, or possess any combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the equivalent work. Physical and Work Environment The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table with intermittent standing or walking. The employee may occasionally lift objects, use tools or equipment requiring dexterity, or distinguish color shades.
