We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a strategic legacy application modernization initiative. This role is ideal for a technical leader who has successfully managed the transformation of IBM i (AS/400/iSeries) applications and databases into modern, on-premises technology platforms.
The successful candidate will possess recent hands‑on knowledge of IBM i (iSeries), RPG development, and DB2, along with proven experience leading modernization projects involving cross‑functional development teams. This individual will provide both technical leadership and project oversight while driving the migration of legacy systems to modern application architectures.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of enterprise application modernization initiatives.
Manage and mentor software development teams throughout the modernization lifecycle.
Provide technical leadership for migrating legacy IBM i (AS/400/iSeries) applications to modern technology platforms.
Oversee the migration of DB2 databases to Microsoft SQL Server or other modern relational database platforms.
Evaluate and recommend modernization strategies, architectures, and technology stacks that align with business objectives.
Work closely with business stakeholders, architects, and development teams to define modernization roadmaps and project milestones.
Ensure successful migration of legacy RPG‑based business logic into modern programming languages while maintaining business functionality.
Establish development standards, code quality practices, and project governance throughout the modernization effort.
Identify project risks, dependencies, and technical challenges, providing effective mitigation strategies.
Coordinate application testing, deployment planning, and post‑implementation support.
Drive continuous improvement and promote modern software engineering best practices.
Required Qualifications
Proven experience leading enterprise software development teams as a Software Development Manager, Development Manager, Director of Software Development, Technical Manager, or Technical Team Lead .
Demonstrated experience managing IBM i (AS/400/iSeries) modernization projects .
Recent hands‑on experience with IBM i (iSeries), RPG, and DB2 .
Experience migrating legacy applications from IBM i to modern application platforms.
Experience leading database migrations from DB2 to Microsoft SQL Server or comparable relational database platforms.
Strong understanding of legacy system architecture and modernization methodologies.
Experience managing technical teams through complex application transformation initiatives.
Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and project coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience modernizing applications to Java , .NET , or other modern programming languages.
Experience designing and implementing modern on‑premises application architectures.
Familiarity with software architecture, application integration, and enterprise development best practices.
Experience with Agile and traditional software development methodologies.
Experience working in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or other enterprise environments is a plus.
